He will do it. He'd love nothing more than to eliminate us.

Toronto Media Theory: Pull Leaf Goalie In Tie Game... Awesome

Story here, note at end

Berger is repeating a story someone else put forth in the Toronto media. This is the scenario:

Habs/Leafs are tied with 1 minute left in regulation.

Would Ron Wilson pull JS Giguere to try and beat the Habs in regulation and thus, potentially, eliminate them?

(Still would require a Rangers OTW tomorrow and the Bruins getting at least one point in its last two games.)

As much as it would drive me bonkers if they did... I mean, throwing stuff angry, I honestly think that it's an awesome idea. This is the kind of evil being rivals is all about and if the situations were reversed, I'd be all over the idea to screw the Leafs.

Hope it doesn't come to it, but if Wilson is in this situation, he really should do it... Would make a great piece of lore.

Would be pointless and would just make people think less of him for no reason.

So I wouldn't be shocked if he did it.

*shrug*

Screwing over the Leafs or Bruins is never pointless.... So why should that not apply to the Leafs?

I'd be pissed off... throwing things pissed... but I'd respect him if he tried it.

I'd be absolutely shocked if they did that. I can't recall any situation where a team ever did that, has that ever happened ?

I hope we're in this situation to see if it would.

Why would Ron Wilson try to win this late in the season? He's gone this long without...

It'd be a silver lining on a terrible season for that franchise and a young team....

They wouldn't look at this as the year they screwed up and traded Tyler Seguin for Phil Kessel. It'd be the year they screwed the Habs.

He'd probably do it if the game was in toronto... Here, he might want to call the police first and let them know they all need an escort to get out safe...

There is no way in hell that Wilson would ever do anything like that.

Yeah right.

Nothing to lose tonight, more to gain for the Leafs if they 'eliminate' the Habs.

I would do it.

There's nothing for the Leafs to gain from a stunt like that, that's why it won't be done.

It's amazing how some people's minds work.

How is there nothing to gain?

I hate the term moral victory, but he flat out said he wants to "throw sands in their gears" and this is a way to achieve that.

I would want the habs to beat the leafs at all costs if the situations were reversed so i don't see anything wrong if they were to do it.

One of the most entertaining part of participating on these boards. It's never dull. You'll see the most outlandish things, and not only see them, but people are absolutely 100% convinced to be right.

I can't help but agree. I'd be absolutely shocked if they did that.

Think of if we score in an empty net. A terrible season without a top pick ending with a petty clownish move.

If I am a coach, no way I want to put my credibility in question to make a move like that.

I'd honestly be upset if Wilson didn't pull his goalie in that situation. It would exemplify that there is always something to play for. I won't be happy if it works, or even comes to that point, but you know what I mean. I don't want our opponents to roll over, I want us to earn it.
