Where is the "give JR a raise thread"?!?!

Bobby Sanguinetti and Riley Nash? JR is a trading genius! He may not make everybody happy with the draft selections but he got us a guy that can put the puck in the net!

His trades are very good

His drafting and FA signings are pretty terrible

Some of his FA signings are very shrewd IMO. He basically signed a bunch of nobody FA's in 2005 and built a Cup-winning team

he got some good scoring pieces in sanguinetti and skinner....and drafted a whack of defensive depth...faulk, biega, alt?

I was going to argue that JR won that draft, Although Snow did pretty well, despite the fact that defense was the glaring need for the isles. And Bowman had some success.....almost everyone but sather did ok.

I'm guessing Rutherford didn't see much in the 2010 draft. He traded a bunch of picks for other teams' already drafted or signed prospects: Nash, Sanguinetti, and Jonathan Matsumoto.

I see it as more of JR knowing that all of the picks he traded to get Matsumoto and Sangs were crapshots anyway. And we already had 2 other 2nd round picks. That s what I like though, this draft we essentially got 3 first rounders (Skinner, Sangs, and Nash) and 3 second Rounders (Alt, Faulk, Matsumoto). Good Job JR

Faulk, Biega and Alt were fantastic picks IMO. I would have JR's picks in the top 75 down as possible home run material if Skinner pans out as planned.

Levi in the 3rd though.... ouch.

I'm all for the trades to get Matsumoto and Sangs though. Especially Matsumoto, he already has a better chance of playing in the NHL then whoever was taken with that pick. Worst case, if he doesn't crack the lineup this year, he Bowman and Samson will make one hell of a line for the Checkers.

DaveG, on Matsuomo, I mentioned in another thread that he has a chance to be to us what Keith Aucoin is now for the Caps, a career AHLer who just puts up lots of points. But it seems he may actually have a chance to get some 4th line time on the big club, especially if we continue with the injury trend from the last few years. I really like the trade.

Have we ever had someone who was, or whose parents were, of asian origin?

It's nice to stole good prospects like Sangs and Nash.

I'm happy with Skinner pick and with Faulk. To be honest, i don't know anything for other kids, but thank you, JR. Good job so far.

PK tried to give him a raise, but unfortunately all the available money had been spent on Brind'amour, Samsonov, and Cole.

I've come to terms with the Skinner pick somewhat, but I'd still rather have either of Gormley or Fowler than any of the guys we drafted. That said, the trades were solid and if Skinner pans out it will be a really good mark on JR's legacy.

This I agree with, but we had a good draft. The Plymouth picks are aggravating at times, but they are never really out of place. Levi played rather well this year on a pretty bad D-core. He's big, mobile, moves the puck well and isn't afraid to drop them. He was a good pick for that spot in the draft.

Last years draft was bad, but since 2007 we have had some solid drafts that a lot of teams would kill for. Although avoiding European prospects can be damaging, it's better than drafting them when we don't really know what the **** we're doing. I think it's better to cut our losses and avoid the European market than to draft out of there when we're batting 1%.

I don't know what you expect out of the draft. Unless you wanted us to draft guys like McFarland and Kabanov we had a good draft. We really improved our defensive prospect depth with a bunch of guys all talented in their own areas. We addressed our needs within what we know. Ask Senators fans how they feel when they draft another Swedish kid.

Levi was our token big, "stay at home" defenseman, even though he has some wheels....he's raw, but allegedly very tough. A few more years of development and he's got the chance to be a very solid 2nd paring guy...

Be that as it may, he's a Plymouth Whaler, therefore he should not have been drafted.
