Phillips to call only 10 games next year? who replaces him?

Watching the fox feed of the game--they gave news that Phillips will only call ten games next year?

is this official or has Fox jumped the gun?

if he will only call 10 games(why call any at all then)--who is the prime guy to replaces him?

Stauffer with Brownlee doing colour?

Your man crush Bob Stauffer is likely his replacement.

I think it will be Stauffer, and he is awful at play by play. I don't mind him doing the colour, but play by play is terrible. He yells for the sake of yelling. I can't stand it. It's very fake. Whatever happened to the old days when announcers could get excited without yelling like an idiot?

Stauffer makes the guy in Tampa look like a beauty. I think I may have to try to listen to the other team's feed when I'm at work.

maybe I'm just a dinosaur talking about listening to games on the radio.

For sure it will be Stauffer, they have been grooming him all year. Why do you think he has done the games this year when Rod has been unavailable.....

Bob Stauffer has done a good enough job. I thought he sold out a bit in terms of when he was on 1260 he always criticized the oil and now he's a bit of a tencer. Still though when you get this type of opportunity I would sellout too.

Stauffer looks like the frontrunner and maybe they bring Morley Scott back into the mix?

i agree completely, i like him as a host/colour guy a lot, but play by play is just not his thing, he is really bad imo...

but like you said, who really listens to the radio anyways...

from brownlee

Rod has until May 1 to let the Oilers know what he's doing. I find it highly unlikely that he'd tell anybody at Fox before he told the Oilers -- or Matheson and I.

When I talked to Rod the day before the team left for the road he hadn't decided what he'd like to do.

like him or not, brownlee is pretty tight with philips

I heard Stauffer calling U of A Golden Bears games for years and he's definitely made a strong effort to improve since then. I think he'll be a suitable replacement whenever Rod decides to pack it in.

I like Stauffer's play by play. He's getting better - starting to loosen up. He's a shoe-in for the job.

I guess I'm watching the game with the radio on tonight, just in case.

I say Stauffer should be the color man as he's a great color man. He can be the color man star. The play by play guy should be the new guy, but in the background more as Stauffer would be the star.

Well this report from CTV says he's retiring, and I, for one, am a bit sad, he's a true legend and I'll always think of him as the Voice of the Oilers.

Where do you think I noticed the improvement Bob's made since his Golden Bear days? He's no Rod Phillips but he's far from terrible.
