I wouldnt really call them softies, maybe stolls but even on that one chorney and strudwick game him the entire ice to get that shot off. Other than that i'd say he was left out to dry and got screwed by our Dmen.

It was a solid game for him for sure, and glad he got the win.

Seconded.

As much as i hated the trade at first, the age and cap hit difference between whitney and vis, the physicality of whitney, and how he makes gilbert play makes the trade well worth it.

Have to thank the LA coach for putting Jack Johnson and Ryan Smyth out for the shootout. I thought this was a team stacked with young offensive superstars, and this is what he comes up with?

LA really lost the game, more than the Oilers won it, but with that goaltending and D they won't be around long in the playoffs.

Once again, Whitney and Gilbert were very good. Gilbert looks like a whole new player, and I thought he was better than Doughty today.

Yeah maybe it was robbery but come we've earned that one over the whole year. Every team gets a win thanks to their goalie. We hardly ever do. Some teams make the playoffs mainly because of their goalie, like Colorado and Phoenix. I don't think anyone should feel bad or guilty about it. Just enjoy it because thats how hockey is sometimes.

The Whitney - Gilbert pairing reminds me somewhat of Keith - Seabrook from Chicago.

That's going a bit overboard, but I think we still need to give these guys a whole lot of credit. The bottom four the Oilers have iced after the trade deadline is really weak, especially on paper (Johnson and Arsene have been surprisingly good actually, but they are both borderline NHL players).

Whitney and Gilbert have been IT for NHL callibre defenders, and they've handled the load extremely well. This is something to celebrate IMO. God knows we need these small positives where we can get them.

There's still one more game to go--don't give up hope!

Hey, atleast we'll outscore Calgary this year, unless Calgary scores 10 goals or so in their last game. That's...something, I guess.

To add insult to injury we outscored them without most two of our best scorers (Hemsky, Souray). I'm not sure how much injury trouble Calgary had, but wow their offense is pathetic. Jaybo was the dumbest signing ever, think of what they could've done with that cash on offense (ie: re-sign cammy to start...).

Thanks for thinking of us, but the Oilers interviews aren't there.

Gilbert + Dubnyk were fantastic.

I've noticed Whitney making some terrible giveaways the last 2 games...

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking .... Ryan Smyth gets to do the shootouts in LA ? Although he did make a pretty decent move there's no way he should be among the first three shooters with that roster to choose from .

Quick was bruuuutal . What the hell happened there , he was amazing up until about a month ago . I wonder if they rode him too hard .

I don't get Tom Gilbert . Where was this game all year long ? I see the media types are saying that he couldn't adjust to playing with Souray and that's what hurt his numbers - which is a load of crap imo because Souray barely played any games this year . Does it say anything about Gilbert that he seems to need the right kind of partner in order to have any game whatsoever . I mean the team was bad and he was playing too many minutes with AHL guys backing him up , I get that bit . But from that to this is a transformation too massive to put down to the appearance of Ryan Whitney .

I'm betting Gilbert was told to stay back and watch out for the kids and the AHL goaltenders .

I don't think so. I think his game legitimately just went downhill. He's turned it around thanks to coaching and hardwork but there was definitely a lot of holes in his game.

I agree. I remember Lubo saying that he was the lowest mentally he's ever been back around the new year, I imagine most of the team was that way.
