Great Thread, Cole is the best.

Close second would be that Florida Panthers announcer who screams out pop culture quotes from movies and music after every Panther's goal.

I love Bob Cole as well. Chris Cuthbert and Bob Cole are my favourite commentators. I'm actually starting to like Mark Lee more than Jim Hughson as well. Mark Lee has an amazing voice. Jim Hughson is great but that Simpson and Hughson combo sometimes gets on my nerves. And I have a feeling like they're anti-Leafs.

I love bob cole and miss the cole/neale duo... they are so pleasant to listen to and evoke good memories. Too bad they are both getting a bit senile, but still pleasant nonetheless. I cannot stand Hughston and really think he'd be a better fit for the game across the border.

He was at his usual. Having to presumably be told after repeating it countless times that Montreal did NOT score twice on the powerplay. Not as bad as usual actually (I usually find him making a lot more mistakes.

Bob Cole on Saturdays...Joe Bowan every other game if we could... that would be ideal.

I love Cole. Always have always will. He's lost a step, no doubt, but is still miles ahead of that Canucks loving homer Jim "great save luongooo!!!" Hughson

Every so often he calls out "Clark!" when a player wearing #17 is involved in the play. I call it a split with Bob and Rick Generet, with the slight edge to Generet, he's got Neal as his sidekick and he's second to none when it comes to colour. Joe Bowen is a close third.

+1

Had a great time last night watching the game, particularly because of Cole and our goal post.

I sure miss Cole though, compared to the garbage we are usually stuck with. (Excluding Bowen)
Untill i see video proof of him saying it, I doubt that very much. He sounds like a Leaf homer to me.

Bob Cole is a broadcasting legend and for me will always be the voice of HNIC. Hughson and Simpson are garbage and healy is even worse. I miss Cole and Neale (a sarnia native) But Cole and Millen are the best it gets these days.

Yep, that's it for me as well.

Last night showed what we've always known, he's still the best.

Comon, some of you guys are ridiculous. The point of a broadcast is not to recite each and every player's name correctly, and he's certainly not a radio commentator - this is TV; no closing your eyes and expecting him to direct your dreams.

TV commentators; what they try to do is complement your absence from the rink, and Cole does a perfect job of it, replicating with ease the mood and emotions of the game and rink in real time.

It goes far beyond player names. In all his years of commentating he still doesn't understand the concept of a delayed penalty. He frequently says things like "it's a 3 on 1 for so and so" when it's actually a 3 on 4 (no I am not exagerrating). He has to see things several times in slow motion before he realizes what has happened that I am able to pick up in live time the first time. The guy started doing these things ad nauseum over 10 years ago.

I'll give people this: he has a good voice. That's about where it ends. If you could remove Pierre McGuire's personality (dorkiness and man crushes...essentially the schtick) and give him Cole's calling ability, you'd have someone I'd enjoy. Pierre is hands down the best I've heard in terms of knowledge of the game and picking up on a lot of little but very important things. Unfortunately his personality is very overbearing.

It's kind of like Britney Spears when she first started. She looked cute but the moment she opened her mouth (outside of song) there was this need to repress bile. Cole's kind of like that unless you are able to ignore having your intelligence insulted that much.

Yeah, except I'm not sure anyone would call Cole "cute".

I'd take a disoriented Cole over Bowen anyday. (Cole doesn't yell at me while I watch the game).
