Ron Wilson or......Ken Hitchcock

With the leafs mired in 29th place.....Last Place in Penalty Kill......Last Place in Power Play....26th in Goals Scored.....29th in Goals allowed I can't help but think about our coaching situation a little bit.

I like Ron Wilson and he hasn't had much to work with in Toronto but I still feel that these guys might not be drinking his kool-aid.

We all know Ken Hitchcock is available so I'd like to discuss the merits of either keeping Ron or sending him packing for Hitch.

The PK and PP are 100% coaching issues IMO. Especially since it has been two years straight that our special teams have been abyssmal.

I believe when Wilson coached in Anaheim, his special teams were crap too. Aren't assistant coaches supposed to take care of special teams though (ie: special teams coach)?

Doesnt Hitch hate playing kids? He sure wouldnt do well here if thats true?

I'd think MacT gets a look if Wilson gets the boot. Or Tom Renney(sp?).

interesting that the last time a team finished with the worst PP and PK in a season was a Ron Wilson coached team.

He's also coached the best PP and PK in the league

i guess there is no in-between with Wilson....my theory is that his system only works with certain players and wilson won't adopt his system to his current players....Wilson is still one of the best hockey minds.....

Hitch is anti-youth and he's also brutal on offensive players.

AKA, Kessel would get eaten alive in a Hitch system..not particularly fond of that possiblity.

I want to see a better defensive plan but i'm not sure Hitchcock is the right coach for our young players.

I'm with Wilson.

The season was mired with lack of skill upfront (nobody's fault, Burke can only do so much in a season), and just plain bad luck on the back end.

Wait until Wilson gets a better forward group and a healthy team, and then judge him.

I mean, we're rebuilding, right? It's going to take a few years.

Is this thread meant as some kind of attempt to go from bad to worse?

maybe it's just me but i don't hold the coach 100% at fault for special teams... the players on the ice deserve some heat for bad play....

also i would keep RW over Ken but i think we all know that if he leafs get off to a terrible start again, RW won't last long

Hitch chased Filatov out of the NHL. I'll take a pass on him, thanks.

I think even Kadri would bolt out to the KHL with Hitchcock around, and Kadri is not Russian.

can we bring in hitchcock and have a 1a - 1b coaching platoon?

could be a way to improve the team without raising the cap...

Hitch would literally not fit behind the bench anymore. Plus I'd rather keep RW on board.

Jeeze

You guys that want Wilson out that would fire him would be terrible GM's. You can't just throw super stars together and expect them to play and never lose. You NEED stability in your organization if not and you keep making too many changes important ones at that you'll never get out of the bottom. I've seen that many times before it doesn't work. Keep Wilson for another season maybe two depending on how much this team does change and who's on it.

People expecting a stanley cup run at the start of this season were crazy . Face it our team is RE-BUILDING. The sooner people get that in their thick skulls the better because we wont have threads talking about who to fire and who to trade every 3 seconds

I don't think Ron Wilson is much of a coach but he's 10 times the coach that KH would be with Toronto.

Don't want Hitchcock, he has a very poor record with developing young talent.

With that in mind, either Acton or Hunter need to get out. There is no excuse for a carry over next season of so woeful PK and PP's.

Hunter, I believe works with the defenseman, I'm not sure of Acton's role but whatever it is the PP was atrocious this season. My beer league teams run better powerplay's and most of my team's aren't very good.

The PK can be blamed mostly on Toskala.

Whether or not Wilson is going to be Burke's guy in the long run... I can't see Hitch coming here. I'm not a bit admirer of the way his teams play... and I don't think that BB is either.

I know that Hitchcock won a cup in Dallas but what the heck happened in Philly and Columbus more recently?
