Steelheads advance to ECHL finals

5-2 win tonight over Gwinnett sends the Steelies to the ECHL finals. Not only that but they win the Taylor Cup (presented to western champs) for the first time in our history.

Ellis receives the first star tonight. Bararuk had a goal and an assist.

Woot!

WOW!! Great news for our prospects. Let's hope they do well in finals.

Yay! ::cheering:: It's so great to see Ellis succeeding in this sort of playoff situation. Especially since he got back there so late. Highly encouraging.

Total Congrats go out to the Steelheads. Unbelieveable job by Ellis. Another reason why he should back Turco next season. Great job Ellis and the rest of the Idaho francise!

But also I asked this over at Andrews...Next year will they be with us or will they go with Utah?

Thanks, the franchise was always one of the best in the former WCHL, and my (somewhat biased) opinion says it's one of the best in the ECHL.

As for who they'll be with next year, I have no clue, I'm wondering that myself.

Terrible schedule... why the heck are the first 2 games in Florida? They should be in Idaho. Not to mention I won't be able to go to any of the games, heading out on the 20th for 8 days. Now I wish Reading had won, then I could have at least gone to 1 game

Florida doesn't have home ice. The series just starts in Florida. This is because of arena availability as noted.

Note that the series is set up as a 2-3-1-1 series. That's four games in Idaho if it goes seven.

Here's their response btw

"Although the Steelheads hold the home-ice advantage over Florida, Idaho agreed that the best-of-7 series can start in Florida on Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15. ECHL finals are usually split in a 2-3-2 series with the higher seed playing the first two and last two games at home. The Steelheads agreed to play 2-3-1-1, with three straight games, if necessary, and the possible seventh game being played in Boise.

TECO Arena is booked May 17-23, the week the Blades would have had to host their three games. Estero, Riverdale, Lehigh and Cypress Lake high schools are holding graduations in the arena that week, There also is a concert by Perfect Circle on Saturday, May 22."
