Schenn is not even a top-pairing D-man yet and is still more potential than legitimate. There is no way Anaheim would even consider that trade. Posted via Mobile Device
If I was Anaheim, why would I want to trade my best(second best?) winger, coming off a pretty good sophomore season, one the main cogs of my offense, for Luke Schenn????
You can say Anaheim needs defencemen all day long, but you honestly believe that if they had to trade Bobby Ryan, that they couldn't get a better package than Luke Schenn + Grabovski??
Luke needs to work on his speed and his shot. More speed would probably alleviate a lot of the troubles he gets into on defence, while a shot would actually make him a factor in the offensive zone. Contrary to what people believe, he hasn't looked very good at all this year so why would we trade him when his value is at its lowest?
It's pretty obvious that players read boards like these. If I were a player and heard fans talking about how I should be traded, I might just be a little more mercenary when it comes to playing for them. I'm sure someone will pipe up and say it's part of being a professional athlete. Well, it's also part of human nature to look after yourself when you're being spoken about as though you're expendable.
Schenn is a top pick with great potential. Something we don't have this year or next. He's also 20, and seeing as how we're still in the middle of a rebuild, it makes no sense to move him when both Beauchemin and Kaberle would be preferable trade scenarios (Hint hint - a new top pairing to Anaheim).
