The other rumor is Lenovo.

Honestly, I think WebOS looks so much nicer than Android, all it needs is better and more reliable HW than what the Pre/Pixi currently offers, and Palm didn't help themselves by jumping on the dev SDK train so late in the game.

Just saw a Verizon commercial, the Pre Plus is now down to $50, and they've also waived the mobile hotspot fee ($40/month). I would be jumping all over that, but I can't upgrade my phone until July.

Bloomberg has HTC in the running as well.

Agreed. Esthetically webOS is very nice. Android is still very geek oriented.

Just imagine hardware like the HD2 or the Evo 4G running webOS. It simply would be insane.

Hell if you read the Engadget editorial, an HTC/Palm buyout would be a match made in heaven, simply by all the patents Palm holds.

Just got a flyer from Verizon today, that I can upgrade my phone early, so I may still look into the Pre Plus, just because I like the looks of WebOS better, and the free mobile hotspot over 3g, which would be nice to have, with my iPod Touch or laptop/netbook.

My fear is Apple swallowing up Palm. HTC would be excellent, and I would bet, that there have been talks between the 2 companies recently, although I don't know how HTC would handle selling phones with 3 different operating systems.

They did make PalmOS devices such as the beloved Palm Treo.

Also, wouldn't it be ironic if Apple eats up Palm just to fire Jon Rubenstein. Also it would make them a mobile juggernaut if they acquired Palm extensive portfolio of patents.

I have a Pre Plus, and my wife has a Droid, so I've gotten plenty of opportunity to compare them directly.

IMO, WebOS is a much better mobile OS. I think it's better than iPhone OS and Blackberry as well. The only thing that Android has over the WebOS is the number of apps.

It's a shame that Palm is having such trouble in the market, when they've got such a great product.

And I think they're right when they say that, if the Pre launched on Verizon before the Droid did, their current positions would be reversed. Verizon customers were long starved for a true top-flight smartphone, so they all jumped on the first one to hit Verizon's shelves (and Verizon marketed the hell out of it).

Am I the only one that was totally turned off the Pre just because of the weird ass commercials they had on? They were creepy. Like Nightman creepy.

Maybe now would be a good time for apple to make a move like this too.

I wonder if the Palm Board of Directors would really **** over Jon Rubenstein and sell Palm to Apple just to see him be fired by Jobs.

I upgraded my LG Dare to a Pre Plus today, and couldn't be happier so far. I just don't like the looks of Android w/o HTC's enhancements, and the waived mobile hotspot fee swayed me as well.

I really like the gestures and how easy it is to swipe through pages. HW isn't an issue either, although it does get warm.

I really hope Palm/Web OS stick around for the foreseeable future.

There is apparently serious interest by Cisco to buy palm to further their entry into the consumer market.
