Huge win ! My 1st in DV...
I played normal against another promoted team. I surprised him a little bit and finished with a 6-2, hattrick for my winger.

Part of me hopes I blow a game though. I'm not really gonna sell most of my trainees till after another season, so when I promote I'm just going to get butchered in Div V since I'm still playing with the players my team started with at all positions except MF/Wing and I don't really have to much money to change that. Ah well.
I'm thinking about it. It certainly would be to my benefit to stay 2-3 seasons in this division. There are 4 newbie teams that I'm significantly better than (and they can't get better to the point of being able to get me) and the rest bots.
I could probably stay in here and farm it out and be ready for division 5.
Chaos, you should definitely let one of the U20 scouts know about that kid. The old U20 coach Xarn plays in Reaper's and my youth league; he'd be a good guy to mail and just let him know that the kid exists. He'll have good advice on training him as well, and what will benefit him the most for a U20 shot.
Yeah I talked to him. His advice was to go with scoring primary/shooting secondary, and get him to his scoring ap as quickly as possible. Then move onto winger.
Of course he's probably going to have a shot at U-20 with someone else, since I'll most likely be selling him as I'm right in the middle of training keepers. I'll be sure to let you guys know when he's on the market.

I would have to throw multiple matches to not autopromote in my league.
You don't promote (at least not with a quali) if you don't win all your games.
On the plus side if one were to purposely drop a match to stay in VI, you would then get the extra training/money of a qualifier (which I would assume you would purposely drop as well). Decisions decisions.
Cricket. They have just created new countries that include USA and Canada. I'm a life long American and have little exposure to the game but its been a good time trying to figure it out.
Anywho, back to hattrick, I'm having a hell of a cup run. For the first time ever I've made the 5th round. Considering I'm in D6 I'm pretty pleased. I have to face a major league team tomorrow so I expect a thorough whuppin.
Seeing as I'll probably have my weekday friendly date free starting next week we should probably have a hf friendly tournament. Any interest?
If so, send me a hattrick mail. I can be found here: Atlanta Arsenal (225705)
I've played Battrick for a few seasons now. It's been interesting enough to stick with, but I don't spend nearly as much time on it as I do HT. I just moved my BT team from the West Indies to USA, but I'm actually regretting that a little bit since now I don't get to play FC matches, and my OD series is all bots.

I did the same in battrick and share many of your same feelings. I think the USA (and Canada) will be much better in a couple seasons as we work up through the divisions so I'm willing to work through the growing pains.
I understand that some folks are politicking for a FC friendly series so you may see some additional game interaction with regards to that.

Ah, that's interesting. It would definitely help. Between the lack of FC and the fact that my OD is full of bots, my cup match this weekend will be my first match against a human opponent in a full month (going back to last season!). That's a little ridiculous. I know it will sort itself out over time, as we'll promote up through the OD leagues, just like you said. And hopefully we get FC back because those were pretty interesting matches. I'm almost certain to get knocked out of the cup, and then I'll only have BT20 matches to look forward to for the rest of the season really.
Still, it's a pretty fun game. I don't know much about the tactics really, but figuring out how to allocate nets is an interesting challenge.
I also play Buzzer Beater, a hattrick-like for basket ball. But I'm just beginning (1 month) so I'm not a nice coach for newbies yet
A friend of mine, who also plays hattrick, is in France elite league and pushed me to give it a try.
Good road point...
I scored a quick SE, as he missed 5 scoring chances before tyining it at 87th. He also had a red card, so I guess I'm a little bit lucky.
Won 7-0 with a road PIC, but I lost my starting IM/coach to a +4.
He's 30, so he won't be back for a full month at least. Not thrilled to say the least.
I am 5-0 though, with a realistic shot to get to 8-0 at least. Season's been going very well for me so far. I lucked out that I'm not in the strongest D.V (by a long shot), but I'll take it.
4-3 home loss to the team that was favored to win the series this year. Went down 4-0 early after losing a midfielder to injury, but I made it interesting. Just not soon enough to come away with a point.
I was treating my match tonight mostly as a measuring stick, to see how I stacked up after changing training and spending some money (okay, a lot of money) to upgrade other positions. I had the first place team at home. I played on normal and managed to pull out a 4-2 victory. I'm definitely happy about it, but I'm not taking too much from it. I have a much more difficult schedule in the second half of the season, playing all the best teams on the road. So, with my winger training just getting started I'm not quite ready to challenge for the title I don't think.
On the other hand, I have 6.1M in the bank still, and I'm about 40k under my wage budget, so I have room to make more upgrades when prices get a little lower. I'll buy another MF for sure, and I really should get another defender. Then probably a second MF, but I'll have to see how things are going.
What are your guys feelings on when to sell trainees? Is there a specific age/skill level you want to wait for? Is it position specific? I've been reading around, and the most concrete suggestion I've found is sell them on their first pop after age 21, but I wasn't sure how sound that was.
If it helps I'm most interested in playmaking trainees.

It does depend on the position somewhat, since they train at different speeds. But the "first pop after 21" rule is not a bad one to use. Really I think it's worth the effort to use a training speed tool (like this one: http://www.ht-box.ru/training.php) and figure out about when you expect pops to come. You should probably add about half a week or so per pop, to account for training lost due to injury, cards, offseason, etc. Then for each level, search the market for a player with the right age and skills and look at his transfer compare. From that you can figure out the amount of value added with each pop, and figure out your profit per week. I do this all in a spreadsheet to do the calculations. It might sound harder than it actually is.
Anyway, this should tell you where the best money is. Then you just have to figure out how to balance profits vs. your team's performance. That's something that always seemed tricky to me about PM training. If you sell your best midfielder, you might be taking a significant hit to the most important sector of the field. So you definitely want to plan ahead.

That's not a bad rule.
Most of the times, people sell their trainees around level 11. But it depends of your level of competition, and age of trainees.
Right now, I divided my winger trainees in 3 groups :
*Starters : 2 DW, 3W, to keep them 3 seasons (winger->14, DW->10 in winger). I'll probably sell a winger every 2 seasons, to keep time to have the replacement at a good level.
*About to sell : 1 winger, 2 DW (pure wingers trained 50%)
*Academy prospects, skill trading (6 players)
