Shootouts are better than ties. as a flyers fan i dislike shootouts but no one can argue its exciting. A few weeks ago I was in a bar during the Coyotes and Oilers(I think) game where it was tied and no one cared. When the shootout started everyone watched. It might not be popular for hardcore fans, but to normal fans there isn't many more exciting things. With that being said, its not going away because of its popularity, dont like the shootout? win in regulation.

It's because hockey is too fast for most Americans honestly. It may sound blunt, but it's true.

Slow everything down to baseball or football speed and we're golden apparently.

It would be nice if, just once in awhile, the NHL catered to the "hardcore" fans, rather than trying to appease the casual fans who need gimmicks and BS to be entertained.

It's simply not hockey. It's like deciding a game by not playing the game.

What if the NBA decided that all games tied at the end of one OT would be decided by a game of HORSE? Entertaining? Sure. But it's not playing the game.

The sport of hockey isn't just penalty shots. It's playing defense, hitting, winning faceoffs, making passes to set up goals...paying a price to achieve victory.

It's not skating up to a puck sitting on the red line, going in untouched and trying to score on a goalie.

Marc Staal and Chris Pronger both played outstanding games yesterday, and were excluded from deciding the outcome because the NHL wants to appease casual fans who would rather see a sideshow.

You want that, bring back the NHL Showdown they used to show between periods back in the late 1970's and early 80's.

You have ties now. Teams that get the bonus point for winning the shootout didn't win a hockey game, they won a gimmick.

Have a ten minute, 4 on 4 OT...ties were no problem for over 100 years. If they are that big an issue, then award 2 points for a win and nothing for a tie or loss. Then you'll see teams going full bore in the OT trying to win.

I would be fine with ties, just like they have in soccer and how they used to.

All in all, they should make overtime 10 minutes, then a shootout. The fact that teams can literally sit on the puck for most of OT makes it suck.

Yeah, what is the argument against ties anyways?

I mean, I understand the argument for the shootout, but what's the argument against ties?

a 10 minute 4 on 4 OT would almost eliminate shootouts anyway.

DO it NHL
