There will be lots to discuss. Player exit interviews are today, we'll likely be hearing Jim Rutherford's offseason gameplan, expectations for next season, etc. The Draft Lottery is tomorow night. A lot going on until the 2010-2011 season begins in Finland in roughly 6 months.
Can't say I won't be disappointed if we bring him back to pair up with Carson.
Agreed. During his time here Pothier was pretty steady with his play. He wasn't that flashy, but neither did he make many mistakes. As our defence will likely be younger next season, having a little bit of veteran presence and experience in Pothier wouldn't hurt.
And as he still has some hands and gas in the tank left, he wouldn't be that much of a burden.
I have no problem bringing Pothier back, but I want it to be a 1 year deal.
I would be surprised if he'd take only a 1 year deal though (unless that is all he can get elsewhere) as there is really no incentive for him to take it. His wife and 3 kids stayed in DC after the trade to Carolina. I would think that he would want to get as much stability as possible if he is moving them (rather than sign a 1 year deal). I realize pro players know and accept that there is a chance they have to uproot their families throughout their career, I just doubt he wants to do that for a 1 year deal and then do it again next year.
I'd be ok with a longer deal as long as it is reasonably priced and doesn't contain one of JR's patented NTC's. Even if we sign another top 4 via UFA, in 2 years, we'd still only have Pitkanen, Gleason, McBain, UFA, Carson, and Pothier. Borer and Rodney might be ready..but personally, I'd rather be relying on them to fill in for injuries/#7 than penciled in the top 6. I'd be ok with Pothier in the top 4 if there was a longer term injury. I'm not as comfortable with Carson, Rodney, Harrison, or Borer in that role.
All I want this offseason is for JR to promise a legit, NHL training camp. I'm frankly tired of his "slotting" system. I don't care how much experience a guy has, how much money he makes, or his golf handicap, if he shows chemistry and ability to play on the first line, then DAMMIT PLAY HIM ON THE FIRST LINE. Pro sports is one of the last remaining meritocracies on the planet, but you wouldn't know it watching the Canes play.
I want real competition, blank slates, open minds. Is this too much to ask?
Just doesn't bring back Ray Whitney and Joe Corvo. PLEASE.
I don't see JR just letting Ray walk after hanging onto him at the trade deadline. I'm with you, I don't know as I want to see Ray brought back, especially the Ray from the last month or so...
However, I won't be too ticked off if he is brought back because I'm fully expecting it. The thing that will tick me off beyond measure is if he gets more than a year or has a NTC or anything related to it. Regardless of what JR wants, he should have learned his lesson on that one this year with Ray.
^There is a reason I stay far away from the FB comments. Those people who comment over there are literally a bunch of morons. Every now and then you'll get someone who actually knows what they are talking about, but 99.9% of the time its the same people who call the post game and tell MM that we need to put Eric Staal in Albany.
