Boy, I'm glad I miss the interviews to go to sleep every night

Sounds like I'm not missing much

Radio just commented on how Conan was talking about Jiffy Lube next door when Lea Michele was on

I never watch the interviews; only the pre-guest part

Yeah like 90% of the time the guests are terrible on any show. There are a few though that are worth watching.

The first three shows have been good, but we haven't seen anything spectacular yet. Still just happy to have Conan back though.

Yeah, as handsome as Jon Hamm is, he's not really funny.

Conan needs to shave. With this beard, he just looks like he aint even trying.

The first two were good I thought last nights was kinda disappointing but that could be me. I think he's still feeling out what he can and cannot do but it'll get better I think.

I disagree... she's about as funny as Big Bang, which is not at all.

A general rule of thumb: any show that tells you when to laugh isn't funny

Exception: Seinfeld

it's funny that no shows use laugh tracks anymore and yet everyone seems to think they do... there's a difference between a laugh track and a live studio audience

I think when people say laugh track, they mean the actual concept of including laughter in the shows, not debating whether it's real or not. Having laughter in shows is just an old concept; almost all new comedy shows have moved away from it and they are much better because of it.

Yes, but the concept of performing a show live in front of an audience =/= telling people when to laugh. The people in the studio audience are actually laughing.

Is there a difference if there's a "LAUGH" sign hanging up in front of the audience that lights up when the actors pause? I suppose they nail every scene on their first takes, too. Or are their jokes so hilarious that the audience can't help but laugh just as hard on take six?

Not that I have anything against laugh tracks/studio audiences, I just can't think of any good shows that have them (Seinfeld, obviously, but it's been mentioned).

Edit: speaking of awesome shows (or perhaps as a change of pace), the Home Movies 10th Anniversary Set is $50 on Amazon's Lightning Deal right now. Just a heads-up.

Obviously the laughter is occasionally enhanced to achieve the desired result in some shows, but yes normally the audience laughs on their own even after multiple takes... The Big Bang Theory (even though I'm not a fan) is known for having an extremely enthusiastic audience that has at times forced scenes to be re-shot because of how they reacted. I also question how hearing laughter is supposed to make people laugh... if **** My Dad Says isn't funny, it isn't funny. Nobody is going to laugh instinctively because the audience does. If it worked that way, nobody would find it unfunny.

A sitcom filmed in front of a live audience including laughter breaks is not telling people when they're supposed to laugh any more than one of Conan's taped sketches which has audience laughter played over it. I wish the people who do those sitcoms with the laughter removed YouTube videos would do the same to Conan sometime... remove all the laughter, take a joke out of it's context and just put it out there so people would see how incredibly awkward even the funniest people can look.

Also, considering the idea of a laugh track/audience free sitcom dates from the past decade, with virtually every show for 30 years utilizing it, I find it hilarious that people keep saying Seinfeld was the only good show to use one. Guess MASH, Monty Python and All in the Family sucked ass.

Laugh tracks can be annoying in some shows when overdone.

So the moral of the story is that Michael Cera really just isn't an interesting guy

I thought the Ted Turner bit was embarrassing. I personally didn't find it funny at all and was just waiting for it to end.

I thought she was an okay guest. The thing I liked was that she wasn't there to plug anything really. I hate when people come on talk shows as a guest and are just there to plug their movie and get the hell out. I thought she was moderately entertaining and her awkward demeanor is what made her funny.

I thought Jon Hamm was a good guest. The stories about his injuries on Mad Men were genuinely funny. As a fan of Mad Men it really does seem hard to believe that he got injured on set. I am not going to say he was extremely funny but he was definitely an entertaining guest.
