Hey it happens, Yankees got no-hit by 6 different pitchers in 03 or 04 because Oswalt got hurt in the first inning....now that was just

Let's be realistic here, how often do you see a no-hit pitcher walk 6 batters? You just said, there needs to be timely good pitching, so if he's walking 6 batters, it's pretty unlikely his pitching is timely and also pretty unlikely he's not giving up hits....when's the last time you saw a no-hit pitcher walk more then 3 guys in a game? (minus Jiminez)
All the time, actually.

There have been 40 no hitters where the pitcher walked 4 or more batters.

Pitchers have way more control over walks than hits. Hits are mostly dependent on luck and team defense. The event is special in that its rare, however I don't think it reveals much about pitcher skill.

Agreed. It doesn't happen often enough where you could use it as a judgment statistic. And you've already covered the dependence on the rest of the team. It's probably more dependent on the other eight players than the pitcher.

Wow, what an outing for Pettitte, was in classic form, 8 IP, 2 ER, 4 K, 4 hits and just over 100 pitches

Oh yay, so the Mets will bring up another top prospect with the whole weight of the world on his shoulders and be expected to hit 5 HRs in 6 games right off the bat.

Color me thrilled. Poor Ike, if he goes hitless in his first 3 games, the media and fans will be ready to throw him to the wolves.

Maybe the 49ers can cheer me up. Get me to Thursday.

Wasn't Murphy supposed to be the next Ted Williams?

And Lastings Milledge was supposed to be the next Gary Sheffield, Alex Ochoa the next Ken Griffey Jr, Alex Escobar the next Manny Ramirez, Fernando Martinez the next Carlos Beltran, Bill Pulsipher the next Tom Seaver.

I could go on and on and on and on with the Mets hype machine when it comes to their prospects. The poor guys really walk into a death trap when they come to New York.

Why would the pressure on Mets prospects be more than in any other big market? Maybe they're just not that good to begin with?

Ike Davis kind of reminds me of Chris Davis. Lefty hitter with towering power but a big propensity for strike outs and difficulties against lefties. Hopefully he can adjust to MLB-quality breaking pitches.

In all seriousness though, Ike Davis reminds me a lot of John Olerud. Considering that John Olerud was one of my favorite players and the guy that I modeled my game off of, I think it'd be awesome if Davis became a guy like that.

Generation K! I got a ball signed by Paul Wilson. luckily, it didn't cost me anything, because it rolled off the roof of the Astros spring training stadium while I was buying nachos.
