My guess is, one of those two guys is coming over here next season.

Figured I'd put it here but the schedule for '10/11 is being released on the 22nd of June.

Cullen wouldn't be awful but we need wingers more than centers right now. And as much as I like Ashton, he's not gonna be our second line winger next year. I think the following year, maybe.

Damn, Lidstrom signed for another year in Detroit. I was hoping for Stevie Y to do some magic and lure him over...

How about the following trade:

Vancouver gets: Meszaros, 2010 3rd or 2011 2nd
Tampa gets: Kevin Bieksa, Steve Bernier

This trade gives you an offensive dman slightly cheaper than Meszaros and young 2nd-3rd line RW with size and scoring ability.

Jason Williams isn't going to be offered a contract by the Red Wings. It seems to be based at least partly on Bertuzzi's contract demands. He's wanting more money than they anticipated.

Holland's also still not sure about resigning Brett Lebda or Kirk Maltby.

None of them are exactly players who set the world on fire, but Yzerman may acquire one or more of them for some familiarity.

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index....-+MLive.com%29

Doug Janik also re-signed with the Wing for 2 seasons.

I'd be potentially interested in Williams. He'll be 30 at the start of the season and sort of got derailed last season by an early injury.

I'd likewise skip on Maltby and probably Lebda (although I could see Lebda being next season's version of Cory Murphy or Kurtis Foster)

I'd take Maltby but a resounding hell no to Williams.

I know that there are some Brendan Morrison fans on here.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/cap...t-be-back.html

He won't be resigned by the Capitals.

As for Carey Price, apparently he'd cost the Flyers Claude Giroux. I somehow don't think they'd take Malone straight up.

It's also looking like no one will be bought out by the Red Wings or Bruins, so scratch any of those plans you may have had.

Price for Giroux? No thanks to what they'd want from us, you can keep the kid and ruin him.

Yzerman has had talks with Niittymaki's agent and is interested in keeping him, Pierre LeBrun has a 'gut feeling' that Antero will stay with the Lightning as the #1. Good news to me.

Quote:
You can't overlook that he put up 21 wins and a .909 save percentage on a struggling team such as the Tampa Bay Lightning last season."He had a good year last year," Niittymaki's agent, Larry Kelly, told ESPN.com. "He's alleviated all of the concerns related to the hip problems he had experienced, and he has clearly shown he can handle the load of being a No. 1 goaltender. He certainly enjoyed it in Tampa, so we'll see what happens."The Bolts want to keep him, if possible."I'm interested, yes. Have had some discussion with his agent," new Lightning GM Steve Yzerman told ESPN.com via e-mail Wednesday.Gut feeling: A deal will get done.

Stay Niitty, we need you.

I mean honestly, i'd rather give you a raise than get Turco or Nabokov.

wow , Price for Giroux ? And after that we wonder why the Habs fans are insane with their request in the trade section .

Even the press is crazy , no way that the Flyers will do that

It's not exciting but I would be in favor of a 2 year deal with a slight raise. No more than two years though with the final year hopefully splitting time with Tokarski.

" One highly respected hockey executive recently told ESPN.com that he believed the Finnish goalie was the best of the group available( free-agents Evgeni Nabokov, Martin Biron, Dan Ellis, Michael Leighton, Chris Mason, Jose Theodore, Antero Niittymaki, Vesa Toskala, Johan Hedberg, Patrick Lalime, Manny Legace, Wade Dubielewicz, Alex Auld, Steve Valiquette, Andrew Raycroft, Yann Danis and Curtis Sanford" plus Jaroslav Halak and Carey Price (both restricted free agents), or trade bait Tim Thomas

I like Nitty as a 1A for a year or two but was the "highly respected hockey executive" Nitty's agent?

Watching the Pro Scouting video on the Lightning's website said that they would be looking for a free agent goalie or resign Niitty which I personally have no problem with at all. If he's not the starter, he's definitely the best backup. How good could he be with a defense?

Sure he was great in spurts. But lets be honest. Hes not a 60+ game starter. Hes just not. If we had another goalie we could rely on to be solid to good for 30+ games then sure Niitty would be great. But we dont. So therefore going into another season with Niitty and Smitty, barring something crazy happening (Smith getting back to something close to form before his two concussions, or Niitty completely losing his consistent hot as fire cold as ice routine), then we will once again have a huge question mark in goal and frankly Im tired of it.

Niitty is great for what he is. Hes just not a TRUE number 1. Id love to get rid of Smith, sign Niitty with a decent raise, and bring in a guy like Ellis or Mason or someone through a trade like Harding or something that can push Niitty and be good for us for the games that Niitty cant be.

So yeah...if the plan is to bring him back as our number 1 next year then my "facepalm" stands.

So heres my 2010-2011 TBL if I had a choice.

Forwards:
Downie-Stamkos-St Louis
Malone-Lecavalier-Purcell
Harju-Madden-Tyrell
Thompson-Konopka-Chewy

Defense:*
Lundin-Martin
Hedman-Ohlund
Smaby-Meszaros
Foster

Price
Niitty

Adding Through UFA:
John Madden
Paul Martin

Adding Through Trade:
Price

Getting Rid of Through Trade/Buyout Etc:
Walker
Smith

*: For the defense if Ranger decides to come back to hockey than I would put him in there somewhere and Foster would be gone and the 7th Dman would be whoever isnt playing well.

Pretty much. Everyone was so concerned about how well his hips would hold up but we never heard a peep about that during the season at all. He played 49 games and won 21 (22 if the refs don't screw us over in the Kings game) of them behind a defense that was below desirable and not consistent in terms of play and players on the defense. He had what 2-3 bad games? He was pulled in Buffalo which was not his fault as that was the BS Vinny Game misconduct game. He would have played about 60 games had he not taken a short leave to be with his family during his kid's birth. He was the bonafide starter at that point and never would have allowed Smith to fight back for playing time in December/January.

Point blank, he's best thing we've had in net since Khabibulin. That's for sure.
