A little surprising that not one person picked Montreal over Washington.

I learned to never bet with your heart, on a crazy weekend in Vegas two years ago. Those picks are probably the smart ones, not the emotional ones.

Not surprising really. Being from Boston, I know how dangerous the Habs can be when finishing 8th. I don't think they'll beat the Caps, but I think they'll put up a bigger fight than most people expect. Good Luck!

I think you mean the Caps.

I agree, but I think the series will show exactly how much the Habs want it the first few minutes they step on the ice. Either they surprise us or they sink as expected.

I probably don't think they will beat the Pens, but the news is we play the Caps.

Not really. The whole-season stats really outrageously favor the Caps.

You can get some hope when you break it down a bit more, and especially try to take into account the Habs' injuries. (Montreal lost the most "cap money" to injuries, according to the Springing Malik blog's calculations -- much of it taken by Andrei Markov who's not exactly the most overpaid player on the planet.) Then there's the notion they've been underperforming their talent at even-strength, but I don't see that that's likely to get fixed before the playoffs.

I'd love to have a true contender, but I also really like it when we come in as underdogs with a very good potential.

Some Cap fans aren't happy of going up against Gomez for the second year in a row, and this time they have another good center to contend with in Plex. If both our two first lines can play solid games and one of our goalies rise up, this is gonna be a tight series and Habs could win it, but the odds are obviously in the caps favor.

This series might look a lot like the Caps against the Rags last season.

WAS/MTL: can go either way, its all up to the goaltenders (also might be biased due to being a habs fan )

NJD/PHI: NJD is going to win hands down, unless Boucher pulls a Biron and upsets the Devils offense

BUF/BOS: BUF from a roster point of view, but a gut feeling tells me Bruins might take this (remind you I am an avid bruins hater)

PIT/OTT: can go either way, it will fall on the goaltenders if Sid and Malkin don't show up.

SJS/COL: SJS will win the 1st round, but lose in the 2nd. (they are my second favorite team after the habs )

CHI/NAS: CHI by a mile!

VAN/LAK: VAN by a mile! unless Luongo reaaaaallly sucks like he did most of this season.

DET/PHO: Honestly, I don't know how pheonix is doing so well even now... but due to detroit's strong performance post-olympics, my money is on them.

Demers just ''dissed'' Hartley. They were talking about Kovalchuk...
Bouchard: ''Bob, you probably tried to make him play in a system''
Hartley: ''Yeah''
Demers: ''That's why he's sitting here!''

Duthie said the concensus amongst the TSN panelists is Washington in 5.

Pang agrees Halak is the better goalie, but doesn't think it makes a difference

Oh wow. Hartley is gonna turn into that kid in highschool who everyone is afraid will bring a gun to class one day. First brisebois humiliates him and now demers. He brings out the worst in the big crybabies it seems.

Neither was Koivu. It's just some are willing to nearly kill themselves for something they believe and some aren't.

Shutdown pair. That's the key term of this series, imo. Hal Gill was really really good for us last spring, and he was part of the shutdown tandem against Ovechkin and the Caps. It scared the living daylights out of us when he was out there on the ice against Ovie, but it worked. If I were Martin, I'd use Gill and Markov together against the Caps' No. 1 line. I know Markov doesn't have a lot of experience playing on the right side, but these are desperate times. Ovechkin being a LW, you can't have Bergeron, Spacek and O'Bryrne out there too often. Gorges could be an X factor as well, but Markov knows Ovechkin pretty well and Gill has experience against him. Anyways, just my two cents.

If nothing else, this should be rather entertaining.

Be careful of what his definition of "it worked" might be. Ovechkin scored 8 goals and 14 pts in 7 games.
