What if a kid is drafted out of Europe, but then decides to play major-junior in Canada... does the club maintain his rights as a Euro-drafted player, or does he become like a NA drafted player?
I "think" i can answer this:
You´re handled like a NA drafted player, if you do play in the NA Juniors when you´re drafted.
When you´re playing in CZE and then move to the OHL for just one season, then you´re still handled like a european drafted player.
It completly depends and the country you´re playing in, when you´re drafted.
Toni Söderholm (Oilers were interested in him last year) was a european guy who spent his complete draft years in NA and was a Free Agent because of this.
Hemsky played already in the Q, when he was drafted, so he´s NA handled, too.
Jaroslav Sklenar is a good example. He´s still Leafs property (as far as i know), but he decided to got to the OHL after beeing drafted, but he soon returned to CZE. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...3?pid=00056849
