POLL: Would you trade Ovechkin for Spezza straight up?

I`ll vote an emphatic NO
It`d take more than Spezza...much more.

Absolutely not.

Ovechkin is at a much higher level.

I wouldn't take Kovalchuk over Ovechkin.

NO. When you are benched in a game 7 in the playoffs, that doesn't scream elite. And yes, I know that Martin and Spezza didn't get along, but.... It is game 7.

You're going far with that statement.

Do you assume Ovechkin will be a top 5 Scorer at 20 years old ?

No. I wouldn't even trade Malkin straight up at this point. 3rd overall pick probably.

He very well may be, but that isn't the only measure of a superstar.

But if you want an Ovechkin-Kovalchuck scoring comparison, look no further than the World Championship Pre-Lims, where through 3 games, Ovechkin has 3G, 2A, where Kovy is scoreless.

Agreed. I'd rather have a proven star than someone who might become a star.

I think the question is kinda nutty. Spezza seems to have just shown a hint of what he's capable of, and Ovechkin's never played a game in the NHL.

I haven't the faintest idea what I'd do. Probably pray to the hockey gods for guidance.

I didn't like Spezza when he demanded a trade from the Brampton Battalion 5 years ago, and I didn't like him last week when he blasted Jacques Martin after he was fired. I'd take Ovechkin, something's screwed up in Spezza's head.

Good thing you aren't a GM then. You wouldn't be employed very long.

In a straight up player for player deal I think I'd trade Ovechkin for Kovalchuk, Heatly, Nash, St. Louis, or a young hard hitting defenseman with a well developed game (I can't even think of one in the NHL, think of a young Chris Pronger) just off the top of my head.

I'd take Ovechkin, has more potential to be a better all around player. But as for the Spezza for Ovechkin deal, NO. It would take Spezza and a Fantastic young Defensman prospect that the Sens don't have. If the Sens can find a way to get Phanouf, then come back and talk to me.
