It's interesting the Sabres best two agitators are both from the area.

When I (Paul Hamilton) asked Kennedy who's better at it between him and Pat Kaleta he said, "It must be something about the city that we know how to get underneath people's skin. It's a way we both like to play, we make it hard on the other team and their best players because usually they don't like to be touched, they don't like getting a stick in the back of the legs or be hit so that's one aspect of the game I enjoy because it gets them off their game a little bit. Pat can hit better than I can , but I can throw a better stick." Kaleta did not dispute that saying he was at the wrong end of Kennedy's stick many times while playing against each other growing up.
I get a kick out of that last line.

Kennedy is like Gilmour in subtle use of the lumber.

I know you're a fan of smaller guys using stick work to earn respect.

I love that the Sabres have one of them in Kennedy.

Eh, he's pretty active with the stick and his mouth (and if he can, his elbows). Tim may have picked a few things up playing with him last year.

Guys have to make space. If you can take the pain, then you can take their space away.

I never really considered Kennedy much of an agitator. I guess he can get under people's skin, but because his size and weight its been more of a 'get outta here you little pest.' than anything else. I'll have to watch his game more closely :dunno

more of an irritant than a guy that gets someone off their game

I was actually thinking of one too. Part of me wanted to get "TYLER KENNEDY" on the back as an inside joke with anyone from these boards.

I agree. Gerbe's not afraid to muck it up and get himself dirty at both ends of the ice. I was playing around with the advanced stats on behindthenet.ca and found it interesting that Gerbe is -- by far -- the leading shot blocker per 60 minutes of any forward on the team (I know it's a small sample size):
Gerbe blocks 3.8 shots per 60 minutes played. The next closest forwards are Ennis at 2.6 and Connolly at 2.2. (http://www.behindthenet.ca/2009/5_on...&team=BUF&pos=)

Except behind the net's database is missing a bunch of players. I'm sure Patrick Kaleta would lead the Sabres forwards in that department by a mile with the way he'll throw himself in front of any shot he can, but he's not listed there. I've noticed that they've left players out before in their stats, which is why I've stopped looking at them.

I noticed that Kaleta is missing from behindthenet, but he's the only one on the Sabres (or at least the only one of any note). Judging by his NHL.com stats, I think you're right. Kaleta blocks 0.65 shots per game in only 10:09 per game, while Gerbe blocks 0.7 shots per game in 14:38 of TOI per game.

So, I guess my point should be that Gerbe and Kaleta both play hard-nosed hockey. Kaleta hits a lot harder. Gerbe probably has a better nose for the net.

I feel like Gerbe is significantly stronger than Kennedy. He can use his center of gravity and need not ALWAYS rely on the lumber.

Kennedy can have a nice litte role this series if he can pester enough.

I like Kennedy as a pest, but I do think Gerbe is the better player. Unfortunately there may never be room for both of them.

That may be true, which is unfortunate, because it is based solely on their size (plus Ennis and Roy). Kennedy also has play-making skills, which he demonstrated in the AHL last year.

I like Kennedy as a pest, because he has that unpredictable offensive flare to throw the opposition off as well. The only thing I wish he would get better at is faceoffs. If he were a good faceoff guy we'd be great down the middle with Connolly/Roy/Gaustad/Kennedy. I think Kennedy and Kaleta on the same line could have great chemistry,
