3rd overall to Edmonton

1st of all OT: I am very quickly becoming a fan of the oilers and am very excited to watch the kids play and become studs in the NHL.

Correct me if im wrong but on TSN when James Duthie asked the 5 GMs if they got the first pick if they would trade it. I remember the GM of the Panthers saying he would to improve his team. well im wondering if you would do a deal for that pick

Edmonton-Florida

1st 2010 (3rd)

Dustin Penner

Im not saying straight up but as a base for the trade. What would you add to eather side?

Edit: The Poll says "Cam" i meant Cam Fowler and messed up. if some one could tell me how to edit a poll it would be very helpfull.

That 3rd is most likely Fowler or Gudbranson.

If that's the case, I would likely reject the offer.

Done. Nothing at all against Penner, but 3rd overall plus cutting 4.25M in salary is a steal of a deal.

I am targeting Florida, because I think we draft Seguin at 2 then Connelly at 3 who is RW. kid scored 30 as a 16 yr old in the W last year. He is going to be a star.

I wouldn't. If it meant we get a great forward and stud defenseman out of the draft, I'm all over that deal.

If Florida is will, you do that, everyday of the week, I don't see it, however.

I would think that Florida would want to trade the pick, but they would probably looking for something more than Penner, but by all means, if that was on the table, I would take it.

I would, I would like to see a warm body come back as well though.

Even a guy like Tarnasky could help fill a hole here for a year or two.

I prefer Penner to Fowler for sure. Gudbrandson looks good to me but is he a sure thing?

If he's a sure thing then I'd consider it.

Hall - Horcoff - Hemsky
Eberle - Gagner - Brule

Thats a weak top 6 next year but very good in a year or twos time.

I would trade Penner to FLD for the 3rd over all pick. I would try and see if they would throw in their 2nd rounder also. He is a big body that can put the puck in the net. We are rebuilding and I think that Connoly is going to be a pretty good player as long as he can stay healthy. That would be the only thing that I would be worried about.

I'm not sure what FLA is up to right now. Rebuild? Immediate help? I have no clue, but if they are looking to deal the pick, Tambo should be all over that.

Penner + Souray

for

#3 + Tarnasky + 2nd rounder

Thoughts?

I think I'd lead with that.

I'd do the deal, draft Gudbranson, and then sign Jagr.

They'd probably want us to take Olesz though.

That's a helluva lot of salary for FLA to absorb. I'm pretty sure they're on a budget. You'd have to take a bad contract back. And I can't see them trading their second rounder too.

sadly im not sure because Eklund said Florida had interest in Souray

no i think that would help both sides and clearing $9.9M in Souray and Penner would be insane and i think that would help Florida quite a bit as well. maybe add Olesz to help with the salaries

Why don't you ask the Panterites? I don't think we should, because honestly I think this is a ripoff in EDM's favor.

Not to be unwelcoming to the OP, but...you're a caps fan, posting this scenario on behalf of FLA?? I don't quite understand. It's an interesting idea, but I don't know what the map for FLA management is like, in terms of organizational goals and needs going forward. I tend to agree that if it's simply that deal, we'd need at least 1 NHL roster player coming back, someone with at least some offensive ability to offset Penner's loss (the 3rd overall, while very high in value, would not translate to any immediate return).

I think management has their eye on Fowler. I'm not convinced, but I have to admit that Lowe can spot a good defensemen. I'm not sure we need him that bad IF a guy like Petry or Plante turns out though. Would probably be nice, but at the price of Penner?

This is coming from a guy that knew Penner would bounce back under a new coach. With better linemates Penner could put up 40 goals.

Although it's an intangible value (because you don't know who's going to be drafted there...well, the team probably has a good idea) but the value of the pick is probably a lot more to the Panthers than the Oilers are willing to give up, unless tambo is so committed to his idea of reshaping the attitude of the dressing room that he's willing to trade a 30g30a guy to get it done.

If the Oilers were able to get a middle-1st round pick and then use that + a player as a package you might get florida interested.

I'd take Gudbranson, I like the kind of prospect he is, he seems like a dominant Defenseman type, which this team needs.

Pass becaus I know the Oilers would pick Fowler... Then again with Souray out Fowler might be able to kind of help fill a hole on D next year and for years to come, that and hes a buddy of Halls. Still a 30 goal scorer for Fowler... I dont think so...

Fowler played awesome in the World Juniors. No doubt about it, but it's tough to quantify that at the NHL level when you have a guy that is making a fairly strong argument that having consistent, talented linemates could help him to the 40 goal mark. Even with 32 goals, that other 8 goals can be tough to dig up in the NHL, but still.

oh no problem im not trying to post on behalf of the panthers it was just an idea i got when i heard Randy Sexton say he would trade the pick if the trade would make them better next year.
