Delaware Federals, 4 games - 264

So just for conversation sake let's say that the FHL does continue operations next season what teams do you think will be removed or added? I believe it's sad to see that Akwesasne only gets an average of 424 fans a night as defending league champions. I believe that Maine will have a team next year and I believe that they will have somewhat good attendance.
Well, where to begin.

The league keeps saying that the Rome Frenzy franchise is planing on making a return next season but in a new location. Most likely 1000 Islands is on the the move after the owner of Bonnie Castle Arena made it pretty clear that hed rather the rink be a casino and reports have Cape Cod on the ropes

Rumors of landing spots for relocated or expansion teams include Lewiston ME, Clinton NY, Cornwall Ont., Johnstown PA. I wouldnt be shocked if the league tries to add the Federals on a permanent basis if they can find rink time in Delaware

With the FHL it's really anybodys guess

Couple of things;

I thought Deleware was going to be a road only team?

Also what is considered breaking even or making a profit in this league for attendance?

hopefully Akwesasne will move to Massena, NY .. they've played about 10 games at the massena arena. I can't believe Danville is still alive, they need at least 1 more team out in their area. Brooklyn, New Jersey, and Danbury are probably the most stable and least likely to move, solid attendance numbers and good on-ice products.

According to this article in the New York Times, the break even point is between 750 to 1000 per game, depending on that team's budget.

It really is Danbury then everyone else in terms of attendance...it should be the goal of every team to ensure they pull in at least 1000 spectators per game, drawing 500 or less is kind of embarrassing.

Interesting. Not much of the league is doing that. Surprised to see 1,000 Islands doing this well.

I've been around that area where the arena is. I don't know for certain because I don't live there, but it seems like the area has a ton of touristy stuff to do, but not a whole lot for the locals. It does seem like a good place for a minor pro hockey team if they can build the fan base up right.

I'd say that Danville and (obviously) Delaware won't survive into next year and by the sounds of it, Akwesasne is more and more likely to be jumping ship next year. I could see the league expanding to arenas in Lewiston and another Canadian location (possibly Smiths Falls) to fill in the Canada void that the Akwesasne team would leave behind. All in all, I'd say we'll see 6-8 teams in the league next year.

Just to compare, here is the average attendance from a Junior 'A' league in the Ottawa/Eastern ON Area.

TEAM TOTAL GAMES AVERAGE
Cornwall 23,537 25 941
Pembroke 23,366 25 934
Brockville 19,638 26 755
Smiths Falls 10,208 27 378
Carleton Place 7,760 24 323
Hawkesbury 6,745 26 259
Nepean 5,741 26 220
Kanata 5,195 26 199
Cumberland 4,865 25 194
Gloucester 4,323 25 172
Kemptville 3,289 22 149
Ottawa 3,532 26 135

TOTALS: 118,199 303 390

5 of the teams in this league beat out certain FHL teams in attendance, Smiths Falls and Cornwall, which is in the same market as Akwesasne, being 2 of them.

Is there any chance of Battle Creek maybe putting in a team? Or is the location to far from every other team?

Do the players who play on Delaware (the ones who are there every game) live in the city? I hope the league is at least paying them something and giving them apartments.

Delaware doesnt really have a set roster nor does it have a home city. The majority of the players are contracted on a game by game basis and then relased.

Their schedule is so spread out I dont think they have any players who stick with them for more than a game or two. The FHL stat pages doesnt really help since they've combined Delaware's stats with the departed Vermont Wild

Was the rink First Arena in Elmira? If so why don't you like this? If the Jackals go then it wouldn't be that bad of a thing to put an FHL team there, would it?

That appears to be it... I think the FHL might be trying to put a team near the Buffalo area as well (I read the owner of the league state such during the Wolrd Juniors in Buffalo), and an Elmira team could help that cause.

Yeah it is confusing, the league tried to have Deleware just pick up some of Vermonts remaining games this year, in order to help out the home teams with losing revenue for the home games. Players are signed per game, according to thier location to the Delware's closest game being played. The scenario is a mess, some teams play Delaware 2-3 times, and some teams don't play them at all or only once. So some teams players can really "pad the stats" while other players have to truly compete for the scoring race.

Because anything below AA or Affiliated hockey is an insult. This is like the old UHL but 10x worse. I will NEVER take in a game, would rather see juniors.

But hearing that meeting had to do with playing suspended Kelly miller Saturday night

Lewiston likely won't be in the mix despite the "Maine Event", Colisee/Firland Management likely looking at partnership to establish a EJHL Franchise THAT MAY eventually be brought up to the USHL level; also, the Pirates are looking and have tentatively asked for 6 dates in case the CCCC renovations force the building to be shut down after the current season ends....

Currently watching the game online right now, and I now hope that Lewiston or anywhere in Maine DOES NOT get a team, because the attendance is absolutely brutal, like probably 100 people tops its absolutely looking like garbage.

As I've said for years, garbage hockey draws garbage crowds.

I stated the crowd was garbage .. Honestly the game was very well played. New 1000 Island goaltender made 47 saves out of 48 shots and it was honestly a good game of hockey to watch, not "garbage"
