When you compare it that way, it looks like winning the president's trophy is a curse or something. Because it's comparing winning the president's trophy to not winning it. Compare the results of 1st overall to 2nd, and 3rd, and 4th, and I'm sure the president's trophy winner still gives themself the best chance to win the cup.

I already showed that it does. The President's Trophy winner, over the last 19 years, has won 4 times. That's just over a 20% clip. I love those odds!

Chara's instigator thing:

So the Bruins forwarded a written request to have the suspension rescinded, yet:

Quote:
"(Rule 47.22)

Instigator in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time (or Anytime in Overtime) - A player or goalkeeper who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at anytime in overtime, shall automatically be suspended for one game. The Director of Hockey Operations will review every such incident and may rescind the suspension based on a number of criteria. The criteria for the review shall include, but not limited to, the score, previous incidents, etc. The length of suspension will double for each subsequent offense. This suspension shall be served in addition to any other automatic suspensions a player may incur for an accumulation of three or more instigator penalties. When the one-game suspension is imposed, the Coach shall be fined $10,000 - a fine that will double for each subsequent incident. No team appeals will be permitted either verbally or in writing regarding the assessment of this automatic suspension."
What the hell?

I guess it means that the Bruins wasted their time and the NHL isn't permitted to read or consider their request.

I highly doubt Chara gets suspended, though. Malkin wasn't last year (and for good reason).

And that goal, my friends, is why I once picked Marek Svatos

The fact that you picked Mark Svatos is a great indicator of how far you've come as a GM

Wow, what a massive choke job by the Senators tonight.

Did this happen?

That might just beat my pal Gipper's pick of Manny Legace. It just might...

oh, absolutely it does.

In a theoretical infinite ATD, I could see Legace being selected around pick #2000. Svatos, maybe not until about #3000.

The only picks I can think of that were worse than Svatos were Shawn Antoski, Mika Stromberg, and Ted Crowley in one of the MLDS.

The most bizarre thing about it is I can not remember the reasoning for taking Svatos. Child prodigy at the ATD I was not.

Today was a day of chokes. Nashville's choke has to be among the worst of all time and Colorado sort of choked as well (had the lead in the 3rd; not as blatant as the others)

So, late in the 2nd period of the Sharks game, when Thornton was in front of the net, and Anderson stopped the point shot and Thornton halfheartedly threw the reboard toward the net and Anderson stopped it, wouldn't 99% of players have taken an extra stab at it there instead of floating to the back of the net? I just didn't see any urgency at all. It's like the guy TRIES to live up to his reputation.

LOL, I had forgotten about them!

Other names that had come up in the past:

Archie Stinchcombe
Wayne Gretzky (coach)
Gerry Odrowski
Gerry Heffernan
Gord Kluzak
Stu Grimson
Mike Peluso
Cam Russell
Petr Briza
Craig Berube

and Donald Brashear has somehow been taken three times!

You think Nashville choked? They came back from a 2-goal deficit, too, so in that way you could call it a back-and-forth game. However, giving up that tying goal while on the powerplay was inexcusable.

So, Pavelski was the undisputed star of that series... anyone disagree?

It wasn't only giving up the goal, they didn't even really get a good chance on the 4 minutes in OT. Nashville's powerplay is unbelievably anemic (the Hawks have a good PK, but it shouldn't be that good).

Pavelski is like the antithesis of the other Joe.

I believe the 18th round pick of Jimmy Foster, the heroic goaltender of Britain's 1936 Olympic gold medal team and two time Allan Cup champion backstopper is the only player from ATD1 not drafted in the last couple of drafts.

Let's not be too critical of what was a learning process though.

ATD1 at chat.mapleleafs.com had the benefits of all the knowledge that had been amassed through 8 hfboards ATDs, yet, the draft list still looked pretty bad. The team I won a 16-team draft with, would not by up to my personal standards in this 30-team draft (at forward, that is. on D, Chelios/Pilote/Pronovost/Bouchard/Gerard/Flaman/Hall/Mohns would be absolutely unreal)

Who's idea was it to do the original ATD on HFBoards? I noticed that JFF started the thread, but was it his idea? Also, did you guys (the original GMs) have any other body of work to go by?

Because if not, that draft list is actually pretty impressive. I would've thought a lot more guys would've been missed.

JFF? It was a joint effort by Lafleurs Fries and myself. I was the only one with any experience, having been through atd8 and was in the process of drafting a 5th-place atd9 team. I had a large part in helping to guide the GMs to adopt equitable ways to evaluate players, but everyone including myself learned on the fly. I was responsible for bringing the format and rules over.
