Patrick Marleau

I'm really split on the guy. He's coming off an amazing season and is a fantastic player, but people seem to think he'd be Drury 2.0 here. I just don't see it though, you're talking about a player who just won a gold medal in the olympics, had more goals than Gaborik, would be the second/third fastest player on the team, is a top 5 LW in the game, and can play pivot, and he would provide a ton of leadership.

I really haven't seen much of a decline either. If we can't get Kovalchuk, I feel like a $5.5mil per over 3 year contract would be great for Marleau.

He is 1,000 times the player that Drury is.

Having said that, I think it would def be a mistake to sign him to a long term deal worth 6-7 mill a year. I could live with the proposed 5.5 for 3 but I dont think that will be enough

He probably is and coming off of a career year he'll probably expect more.

6.3 per 4? *shrug*

Yah, 5 years 7.5 mil would be my guess and Im not touching that.

Once Drury is gone we can try something like that.

I really hope we pass on him. He was able to score 40 goals with Thornton, Heater and Boyle on his team. Somehow I doubt that will be the case in a NYR sweater.

He seems like one of those players that gets his money and just **** the bed. Same feeling I have with Plekanec. Just playing for the money.

Plekanec would be a worse signing than Marleau, but I agree.

Because while they both are having "peak" years, Marleau has been more consistent over his career.

Marleau's one of those players that needs talent around him. Look at the year when Thornton arrived in San Jose. Then look at 2008... There's something about him I don't like.

I absolutely hate the idea of Marleau. Has overpaid disaster written all over it. I would rather see Christensen at a huge discount center that top line.

Oh yah I agree. Im completely against signing any centers this offseason. Christensen, Anisimov, Drury, Boyle, and Dubisnky if needed are fine by me.

A shutdown dman or a star winger are my preferences. Frolov doesnt count as a star winger unless we get him as a bargain which is unlikely.

not into the idea of spending over 6 mil a year on a player who isn't considered a franchise talent. we can't afford it.

Marleau will get close to max by some cellar-dweller with cap room.

No no no no, please no.

He's been one of the Sharks worst players so far these playoffs.

He will not be worth his soon to be well overpriced contract.

Marleau cannot carry a team by himself. See: every year he's played for SJ. He'll be like Gomez, Drury, and Redden. Another player not able to be worth his contract.

Pass on him and Pleks.

I really don't want him either. He's lazy. If we sign him and then bring Zherdev back... Forget it. I know we'd have secondary scoring, but without a heart and with invisibility. Just my opinion.

Marleau won't leave San Jose. His life is too entrenched there. I can see him taking a discount to stay there.

HELL NO.

He is the exact player we would have gotten pre-cap era.

NO. NO. NO.

He will decline to crap when he gets here and we will be stuck with a long and expensive contract.
