This is about not getting enough out of guys like O'Marra, McDonald, Reddox, Schremp and on and on.

It's more about the AHL gig than his drafting record. I'd say the Oilers have been average at the draft, better in recent years. But your prospects HAVE to play competitive hockey at the AHL level. It is a must. This season was brutal and the Falcons couldn't get anything going.

We NEED a strong AHL team.

Take a look at our minor league system since we got to Springfield, and before that. This was Prendergast's department.

Clearly there's no reason to scout the top junior hockey tournament for under-18s unless they're all draft eligible, amirite?

There are so many moronic things we can criticize this moronic management group about. This is clearly not one of them. If they weren't in Belarus, I'd be asking questions.

Yeee-haw. Glad to see one clown gone.

20 years of service is quite the feat, but change is good.

I donít follow it all that closely, but this year I assume they would be bad due to the amount of call ups required to fill in the Oilers 500+ man games lost due to injury.

Iím not defending Pendergast, its just an honest question since I donít follow the management all that much. Since its pretty much agreed here that itís a good thing, I was curious why.

If the farm team was sucked dry of all its top talent and that top talent proceeded to produce at the NHL level I don't think anyone would care what the Falcons record was. Conversely, if the guys weren't quite ready for the NHL but played mightily in the AHL, there'd be some forgiveness that way.

Instead, few were ready to play up here and they sucked just as bad down there.

Only Prendergast can spin this positively.

Nice to see some accountability for a wreck of a season - hopefully there is more to come

Interesting they went this direction as our drafting was just about the only thing that went right the past 5 or so years.

we've talked about this for three months--Management needed to toss someone under the tree

But what prospects in the past few years have turned out good or have the potential to be good after going through our system?

Our best prospects haven't played in our system besides eberle, and he didn't play very much.
Everyone who played on our AHL team who had any sort of potential has basically been deemed a bust or a third liner at best.

I would attribute that to Stu McGregor instead of Prendergast.

Ah I see.

Anyways, pretty big move to fire someone who's been with the org for 20 years. He's probably one of the longest serving members of Oilers management, next to Lowe.

Its also cause we've had a few make the direct jump to the NHL. Don't forget Chorney, Peckham, JDD, Potulny, and Dubnyk still have quite a bit of hope. And then Cog and Gagner of course made the direct jump.

Canada

D Erik Gudbranson- Top five pick.
LW Brett Connolly- Top ten pick.
LW Quinton Howden- Top 15-25 pick.
C Greg McKegg- 1st rounder if I'm a GM, might drop to 30s.
C John McFarland- Not a 1st rounder if I'm a GM, but might go top 20
C Jordan Weal- Late 1st/early 2nd rounder. Eberle's linemate.
C Ryan Spooner- Late 1st/early 2nd rounder. Hurt for half of year.
D Brock Beukeboom- Mid 2nd. Might Oilers take him with NSH's pick?
G Calvin Pickard- 2nd-3rd round
D Stephen Silas- 2nd-3rd round
C Steven Shipley- 2nd-3rd round
C Freddie Hamilton- 3rd rounder
C Michael Bournival- 3rd-4th round

Good to see the Oilers are finally putting foot to ass in their system.

Interesting, didn't see that coming..... Maybe this is a sign that there will be continued changes throughout the offseason and change can only be a good thing for this organization, now it's time to let Lowe go.

Despite the fact that they're coming off of an atrocious season, the timing still seems odd.
