Good move. He did a lot of good things for this team over the years, but he had to go with everything that's happened in Springfield recently.

Hopefully they go outside of the organization and the old boys club for his replacement too.

I hope this has a positive affect on the Nash Situation. I think KP and Nash weren't seeing eye to eye.

I’m not defending Pendergast, its just an honest question since I don’t follow the management all that much. Since its pretty much agreed here that it’s a good thing, I was curious why.
I actually think he was more useful when he was purely in a scouting capacity (though it is early the returns on his replacement MacGregor are looking like that was a good move).

I am not sure he was doing a horrible job. But he was not really doing a good job either. Every season on the farm. It seemed like he took one step forward in one area and another two back elsewhere.

First it was lack of depth. Then he signed a bunch of guys but they were all low level depth and he did not bother to sign any bigger name AHL free agents to lead the charge. Then he signed a few bigger name guys but did not bother with overall depth again. Not mention he seems to like to sign a lot of guys that are slow, cannot skate and are just known for being physical (such as Riley Emmerson, Matt Nickerson etc...) but can not even play at the AHL level. This years team he put together a big, slow team with little to no offense on the back end, no transition game and no real defensive awareness in the forward group (outside a couple select guys that were drafted prospects). They have always lacked depth with goaltending down in Springfield as KP seemed to refuse to sign a vet goalie to tandem with either JDD or DD. Once one goes down, gets called up or plays poorly for a stretch they had nothing there and it hurt them a lot.

I thought he made a few good moves with the farm club. But he usually canceled them out by not getting a good mix down there. Having said all of that injuries did conspire against him this season, no argument there. In some ways he might be getting a bit of raw deal. Yet he has his faults for sure. You knew something had to change there.

Tambellini has said a few times lately that Rob Daum and the coaching staff down there did a good job this season. Which obviously with this move today says to me he is pointing the finger at KP as a big part of the problem or at least not part of the solution. There has also been some rumbling lately of some prospects (in the system and in college/Europe etc...) feeling they are not getting good communication from the Oilers. I am guessing that would fall under KP's umbrella as well? I am not entirely sure on that but I believe that was more of his area of responsibility.

I don't know about you all but I'm extremely curious as to what Millard and Flaming have to say about this.

Guy wrote an article on the Pipeline blog a couple months back. He was predicting this move. He also at that time said it would be a bad move and KP did not deserve it from what I recall.

Everyone who played on our AHL team who had any sort of potential has basically been deemed a bust or a third liner at best.
But that's what they were going in.

Look at the list of players down there.

Aside from guys like Chorney, Plante, O'Marra and Dubnyk, they were mostly later round picks.

For the last few years the Oilers have either fast-tracked their CHL picks (Gagner), fast tracked their college picks (Cogliano) or let their college picks stay in (Petry, Nash, etc...).

So, does this mean that Cody Wild will get another opportunity? It seemed to me that it wasn't necessarily Daum who wasn't a fan of his...

Call me crazy but could Mac T be a candidate for the job now? Maybe he has liked the consultant role this season and wants to be a little more involved in the personal moves? I said for years that he seems to me like a guy who would be better as a GM then as a coach. As a coach he has trouble trusting a lot of his players. Anyways, whoever they hire/promote to this spot (Bob Stauffer...don't know how many of you know that rumour and those that don't shouldn't laugh), I would fire Daum (Stauffer wouldn't do that!) and hire the recently released Randy Cunnyworth. Great track record in Buffalo's system producing players, I've been a big fan of his for a while now.

I honestly believe had they been more patient with those 2 we wouldn't have been nearly as bad this season. Cog's needed a year or 2 in the minors, Gagner definitly needed to go back to London in 08 and trust me people I'm not saying this in hindsight.

As a MacT fan I hope he goes to another organization. I think if he works with the Oilers he won't get any respect and people will just assume he got the job because he is buds with Lowe. I think if he goes somewhere else people can finally realize that he's a good coach and just needs a decent team.

He should go to the vacant spot in TB. That way, we can see how he works with talent. If he still effs up the players there, especially Stamkos after his breakout this year, then we kinda know who's fault it can be partially attributed to.

I never forgave him for saying that the reason why they did not want Parise on draft day 2003 was because his skating was not up to the "Oilers standards"...

I can't believe he's lasted this long. Good riddance.
