IIHF World Hockey CHamp on ESPN!

IIHF WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP ON ESPN2

ESPN2 will televise the United States/Sweden semifinal game from the IIHF World Hockey Championship in Prague, Czech Republic, Saturday, May 8 at 6 p.m. ET. Peter Forsberg, Colorado, and Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit, recently joined Sweden’s team.

Team USA, featuring goaltender Ty Conklin and forwards Chris Drury and Mike Grier, defeated the Czech Republic in a shootout, after rallying from a two-goal deficit, to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2001. The U.S. is looking for its first medal since 1996.

If Team USA wins on Saturday, ESPN2 will televise the Gold Medal Game Sunday, May 9 at 7 p.m. If Team USA and Canada (playing Slovakia in the other semifinal game) both lose Saturday, ESPN2 will televise the Bronze Medal Game Sunday at 7 p.m.

ESPN2’s coverage will be presented in conjunction with TSN. Dave Randorf and Gary Green will call the action.

Great News!

I hope plenty of people tune in.

Edit: I'mlooking around online and I can't find any confirmation of this. Could you give me a link to where you found this please?

No teams should be allowed to take on any more players.

it's sad that teams get to certain points of a tourney and that it can all be undone be a few additions.

it's just not fair.

I work for a major cable operator in advertising, and this was sent out by ESPN.

I see your point but really this type of decision should be left up to the coaching staff. They would know if a particular addition would cause locker room stryfe or affect team chemistry. Besides, I can't imagine the addition of Forsberg or Lidstrom actually hurting any team.

Awesome news about the espn2 coverage.

Thats why i've never been a fan of this tournament.

But you know what. Usually, the teams that benefit from this
kind of rule, end up losing more times than winning.

No worries, I learn all sorts of things before they are 'official', and many of them don't pan out like they are supposed to. The timing of this particular announcement makes it ahrd for ESPN to change their mind.

This way the Rangers fans can get a first glimpse of Henrik Lundqvist too, he's been very solid in Sweden's net throughout the tournament so far, so now you can all see him in action for the first time (I think?).
