So it's all come down to this, Joey Moss is the reason that our team blows. I thought that it was that one usherette that spilled beer on a guy once, my bad. Or maybe the guy that scrubs the toilets clean in the home locker room? Or the guy that supplies the tape for the sticks, or maybe the guy that fills the squirt bottles with Gatorade (an Vodka for Khabibulin)?

With some of the stuff that I've been reading of late, if there's no sarcasm smiley there's probably a 60/40 chance that it isn't sarcasm.

No, I just think everything needs to be changed. I love Joey, seeing him go would kill me but if we want to change the culture we have to do it and I hate myself for saying it

You're right, we'll never be a winner with Joey Moss around, other than Lowe he is the last link to the past.

What a doucebag. Jimmy Olsen played high and mighty with the botched Heatley trade refusing the confirm the rumored deal. He now goes off on a witch hunt fueling speculation about the firing of off-ice personnel, people whose livelihoods are not assured for life like the millionaires who play the game. Shameful amateur hour.

IATL was being 100% sarcastic (I'm 100% sure of it). If he wasn't, then this response applies to him as well.

YOU DON'T ****ING FIRE JOEY MOSS. The guy's given his life to this team, and exactly 0% of the team's on-ice performance has anything to do with him. Geez.

I never said that but seriously think about it. If we fired the most loved person on the Oilers do you know what kind of message that would send to the players? Were not BSing anymore, we mean business.

Hes not the problem at all but drastic decisions need to be made as much as they may suck

Lets be reality here, the Oilers won't fire Joey Moss, how some of you guys even brought that up is beyond ridiculous. Not even a team as stupid as the Oilers would do something like that. Having Joey Moss around is a little bit more than just hockey ya know.

By this logic we should also fire Pat Quinn, because this is a FACT: the players would respond to a coach getting fired after a year A LOT more than a beloved training that has been with the team for nearly his whole adult life....how do you know half the players that love Joey wouldn't think it was retarded and have less respect for mgmt?

In the end, I wouldnt be impressed if they fired him at all...there's changing the culture, and then there is irrational moves just for the sake of change...and i don't really think firing him makes the team better IN ANY WAY...therefore i dont do it

Hardly a knee jerk. I was wondering if the Oilers were going to put up with another season of so many key players going on the IR.

Oilers man games lost to injury (MGLI) this season = 530
2008-2009 MGLI = 140
2007-2008 MGLI = 291
2006-2007 MGLI = 286

Crap. Just closed all the windows. This years numbers I got from the NHL's media site.

The others I got from James Mirtle's posts over the years.

09-10 - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle1438180/

07-08 - http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2008/04/2...to-injury.html

::edit:: good call on the conservative numbers for 07-08 it's actually at 340

For years we've been near worst in the league for injuries. There's gotta be something to it.

Man... if K-Lowe could be next... this could be amazing. Better than drafting 1st overall IMO.

equipment dudes shouldn't have a problem. I'm sure joey and sparky are fine.

but I agree. we've had a bad run of man games lost that nobody else seems to go through.
teams have one bad year here and there, but ours is a continual process.

It can't hurt to make a change in training and medical personnel.
and it's never a good idea to keep someone on staff only because you like them or because they've been with the company so long and it would be a shame to get rid of them.
I'm sure those of you in the business world know for a fact about being in a company that keeps people well past their prime and stuck in the past at the expense of losing talented, energetic people with current knowledge, or not being able to get those people due to misguided loyalty.

House cleaning is going well... The Oilers defense sucks... trade dmen away and acquire better replacements (underway)... the Oilers offense sucks (at least 6 to trade away/buy out yet)... goalies suck (We are stuck with Khabi but acquiring a young legit starter is still a top priority)... their farm system and prospect development sucks (firings in that area have been done already... hopefully more to come)... the medical/training staff sucks (firings underway in that area)... the management sucks (hopefully more firings to come yet).

Trade/fire all the old status-quo members in the "old boys network". Kevin Lowe should definitely be next in line for the chopping block.

So far so good as the team needs a total shakeup/cleanout. I like what I'm seeing so far and have a lot of optimism about where this team will be in 3-5 years.

Does this mean we have to rename the Joey Moss Cup to the Rexall Cup?

Wrong. Chad Moreau is still very much in the picture. He is currently the Oilers off-season fitness and nutrition consultant. Bennet is the Oilers in-season fitness consultant. Just go to Chad Moreau's website and he states he is currently the OIlers off-season fitness concultant. I also remember a Hemsky interview in the summer saying this is the first time he paid this much attention to strength training- he was being emailed by Chad Moreau all summer on what he should be doing.
