2nd Round of Cuts (Zuccarello, Grachev to HFD; Semenov, Exelby released)

Torts said it's going down after the game 2nite so we will know on Sunday

my guess upfront it's Byers, Weiss, Williams, Newbury

On D Exelby gets released /2way deal at best. I think Eminger is out and they may as well waive him down to the farm 2morow giving him a chance to ge claimed which I am sure he wont.

Afraid alot of us like Sauer but he gets cut

I think White gets another game but seems like he would be a casualty due to numbers and cap hit

did Torts give a estimated number of cuts?

I don't think he has any shot to make the team after tonight, but I would like to see Grachev get 1 more game.

It all depends on if Torts and co are comfortable with 2 rookie d-men again this season.

Right now for rookies it's down to McD, Vtank, and Sauer on D.

Semenov is the best of the 3 vets. Does Torts think Semenov will be a solid 6th guy and carry one of Eminger/Exelby as 7th? Who knows.

You gotta figure Gilroy is in the mix too.

McD - Sauer/Tank/Gilroy

Semenov = nr 7 imo. And not bad either.

Time will tell...

Looking at the remaining 37, have to think next cuts are:

Weise-expected more tonight, but not sure why.
Byers-lost a fight bad, has no role on team.
Newbury- nice fight win, but no need for him, good guy for Hartford.
Williams- Go light up the AHL
Grachev- Hope he gets another game, but did nothing really, go tear up the AHL for the begging of the year kid.

Exelby- Outright release, too many d-men in Hartford as is.
Manning- Has not dressed yet, why is he here?

Think White and Eminger will get more work.

Thought Byers was going to show more tonight, aside from the weak showing in the fight his skating looked poor. Weise deserves to make this 2nd cut, looks like he can offer more on the NHL level.

#NYRangers coach John Tortorella really liked the versatility shown by Tim Kennedy and Todd White.
Todd White getting some love from coach, yikes.

I would agree that Exelby and Eminger should be cut. They're both brutal.

hmmm, going to the game in Detroit, was happy to see the lineup 2nite cause it means Stepan with Frolov and Gaborik 2morow

guess it makes sense to see one more game then make a bunch of cuts

Kocur, Domi, Probert, Orr, and Boogaard have all lost their share of bouts. Byers is a tough kid. Fights sometimes don't go your way.

Not sure where he fits though. Prust and Boogey got that 4th line down.

No cuts for the #NYRangers after tonight's 5-4 OT win over the #Devils. Everybody going to Detroit for tomorrow's game. Cuts by Monday.

Agree with everything but Weise. I think he'll go down eventually, but it won't be Monday unless that's the last round. IMO he showed enough tonight to warrant a couple of extra days in camp.

Good stuff. I was really hoping some guys wouldn't be cut yet. I want another look at a number of our guys, with different pairings/lines. Even the Exelby's and Eminger's that played pretty crappy tonight.

We need to deal away Sauer while he still has some value. A lesser team maybe willing to give up a mid/late-round pick for a young defenseman who can play on their bottom pairing. There is no reason keeping him in the minors. He can play in the NHL (at least one some teams), but will never make the Rangers. Let him go for whatever you can get for him, just to allow him to have an NHL career.

Same for Byers. He should be shipped for whatever we can get, even future considerations. He's never making the Rangers. Honestly, his best hope is to become a journeyman who is a bottom team's 13th forward.

Either way, whether another team can give him or a spot or not, I don't think we should keep him in Hartford. He has no future with the Rangers and he'll be taking away ice time from someone in the Whale (the name Whale=barf).

I hear what you're saying. I would hate to lose anyone on our team w/o getting sometime of compensation back. Especially guys that will eventually play in this league.

You need capable guys in your farm system though. The 4th or 5th rounder we'll be getting in return will probably be less valuable than having those guys in our system, even if it's just for another year.

Not too sure you're going to find many trade-partners for guys like Sauer and Byers anyway. Sauer has to prove he can stay healthy, and Byers isn't anything more than a future 4th liner. Most teams have guys like this in their system.

My guess for the next cuts among forwards (22 F left):
- Dane Byers, not good reports on him and invisible so far
- Kris Newbury
- Jeremy Williams
- Evgeny Grachev, seems just not ready yet... still very young, another year in the AHL will help him
- If Sather's and Tortorella's comments about earning a spot are not just rhetorical BS, Erik Christensen will be with the Whalepack

My guess for the next cuts among defensemen (13 D left):
- Wade Redden on waivers. He's out. (12 D left)
- Brandon Manning. Don't see him being among the best 7. (11 D left)
- Garnet Exelby. To quote the great John McEnroe: "You can NOT be serious!" (10 D left)
- If Sather's and Tortorella's comments about earning a spot are not just rhetorical BS, Steve Eminger better do a 180, or he'll be joining the Whalepack. (9 D left)
- As much as I love Pavel Valentenko, let him adjust and prove it in the AHL and be a prime call-up. (8 D left)
- Final cut to bring the number down to 7 D should be interesting, depends if the NYR offer Semenov a contract or release him

Goaltenders:
- Chad Johnson better work very hard with the Whalepack, especially on the rebound control!
