The University of Texas is getting its own television channel, featuring all the great Texas sporting events that you never wanted to watch. The new network will feature at least one football game a year, eight men's basketball games, assorted nonrevenue sporting events, high school sports, university news, coverage of lectures and visiting speakers, commencement ceremonies ... I know, I know, you have the same question I do: WHERE DO I SIGN UP FOR COVERAGE OF THESE AWESOME LECTURES?

ESPN is playing Texas $300 million over the next 20 years for the privilege of distributing the network. Like all of you, I look forward to watching this channel, especially its nightly one-hour live special, "Bevo Takes A Leak." I am thrilled for the University of Texas and especially the city of Austin. I visited Austin for a few days once and still cannot fully explain why I left. What an amazing city.

And of course, I am thrilled for the whole state of Texas, which plans to use the $300 million to buy the state of Nebraska, then donate Nebraska to charity, just to prove that Texas doesn't need Nebraska.

So I am prepping for the journal club presentation I have to give tomorrow and I picked an article that had some really good reviews. It is about overeating and the subsequent effects on the neuropeptides in the brain. It causes them to get all out of whack and causes people who already overeat want to eat more and exercise less. The study is actually about exercise and that it restores the neuropeptide balance and decreases the amount of food eaten by obese mice/diabetic mice through some really cool mechanisms that I won't go into but I just find it slightly amusing that a lot of government money went to finding out that exercise is good for fat people Don't get me wrong it is a really good paper, I'm just amused probably because I've been staring at the paper figures for too long!

edit: regarding the bold, this is false the researchers are from Brazil and they can spend their government money however they damned well please!

We're just going to let the fat cats in Brasilia get away with this?

so as many of you have probably heard this crazy storm in the US is crazy. Purdue canceled class today and we are expecting 10-14 inches of snow tonight so there is a chance we won't have class tomorrow. It is the first time they have canceled class in the 3.5 years I've been here. I don't think I've ever seen more than 5 or 6 inches at once before, I can't imagine. Oh well.

Definitely sick of the ice. Back of my car is completely screwed up because of wrecking on the way to the game on Tuesday (still made it though).

Having no class this week makes up for it a bit

The game itself was awesome but it seemed everything else related to the Super Bowl was a disaster...massive ice storm, ice falling on people, missing seats for ticket holders, screwed up national anthem, terrible half time, only a handful of halfway decent commercials...

UT students set off "mentos bombs." As in, the fresh maker. Turns out when you combine it w/ soda, it's the fizzy explosive mess maker too.

I deleted Heika's RSS feed. That'll show 'em. I am now blissfully unaware of anything he misreports.

Isn't the expectation now that half time will be terrible? In that regard it hardly disappointed.
