GM Game #1 by matt trick, TL, and IR4

And make sure you have your roster & cap info posted in the roster thread!

Game Schedule

  • Trade Deadline: Saturday 10/23 7 PM
  • Standings Votes: Saturday 10/23 7 PM - Sunday 10/24 1 PM
  • Quarterfinal Voting: Sunday 10/24 3 PM - 4:30 PM
  • Semifinal Voting: Sunday 10/24 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Conference Final Voting: Sunday 10/24 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Stanley Cup Final Voting: Sunday 10/24 8:30 PM - 10:00 PM
  • Entry Draft: Tuesday 10/26 7:00 PM
  • Free Agency Begins: Wednesday 10/27 6:00 PM
*All times EST, and subject to change

Salary Cap
  • The salary cap from the trade deadline until the end of the playoff voting is going to be $59.4M.
  • Teams may have no more than a 23-man roster when playoff seeding begins.
  • Any player that is currently injured but is expected to return by the time the trade deadline approaches may be used on your roster.
  • We will be using Daily Cap Hits from CapGeek to find our players pro-rated cap hits.
    1) When acquiring a player via trade, multiply the player's daily cap hit by 42 (the # of days remaining in the season at the trade deadline). This is what counts against your team's cap number.
    2) When trading a player away, multiply the player's daily cap hit by 144 (the # of days before the trade deadline). This is what counts against your team's cap number.
    3) It could get complicated for some, so PM a commissioner if you have any questions or if you need the calculations to be made for you.
  • The salary cap for the 2011-2012 season will be $62.3M

  • Post in this thread if you'd like to place a player on waivers.
  • Each team has the option of sending down 1 player with 1-way contracts to the minors (or Europe) due to cap reasons and only 1 buyout will be allowed per team.
  • The lowest team in the standings in real life gets highest waiver wire priority.

  • All trades must be sent to IslesRock4 and matt trick or else they are not valid.
  • Once a trade is agreed upon, send it in BEFORE POSTING, and then you can announce it in the thread. A deal without a NTC or NMC does not have to be approved.
  • If a trade is announced prior to it being sent in, it will be vetoed.
  • ALL MOVES MUST BE SOMEWHAT REALISTIC. Washington will not trade Ovechkin, Pittsburgh will not trade Crosby, etc. The commissioners hold the power to veto any ridiculous trades.
  • A trade involving a NTC or NMC must be approved by BOTH trade managers prior to posting. Keep in mind it will only be on a rare occasion that a NTC or NMC is waived.
  • If a trade involving a NTC or NMC is announced before approval, it will be vetoed.
  • If a team does not have enough cap space to acquire a certain player, the trade will be vetoed.

- One PM per team for all the UFAs to be you would like to retain. Wait until you get an answer before sending me another one.

- Send offers and not inquiries. Don’t be surprised if you don’t get an answer if there is no offer made in your PM.

- Send serious offers. If you start with a lowball offer, it will be hard to convince me to negotiate before July 1st.

- Don’t get angry if you want to retain an UFA and he decides to wait after the season or even to test the UFA market on July 1st. Most UFAs (at least key UFAs) will be in this situation. If you can provide me a link saying that the player would like to be back with your team, it might be easier to negotiate. I will also use my own opinion if there is no link.

: Mikhail Stefanovich

: Eric Goodard
: Conditional 7th round pick (granted if Godard earns 150 PIMs this season).

: Ben Eager
:thrashers: Ottawa's 5th 2011

: Dany Heatley, Kent Huskins, Derek Joslin

-Top-pairing defenseman to play with Markov (RD or LD who can play on the right side)
-2nd line LW rental to play with Gomez and Gionta (big and physical)
-Depth in the prospect pool (defensemen)

-Roman Hamrlik (needs to be involved in a trade for a number 2 defenseman for cap reasons but he is an UFA at the end of the season)
-Benoit Pouliot
-Ryan O'Byrne
-Ben Maxwell or David Desharnais
-Mathieu Carle
-Every picks are available (2011 1st round pick only in a trade for a great number 2 defenseman)
-Good/Midlevel prospects (better prospects might be available for the right player(s))

I will consider other offers aswell.

Top line winger
Top pairing defenseman

Seguin would only be traded in a deal for a top pairing defenseman under 30.

Leafs make minor move; acquire Kitsyn from Kings

The Toronto Maple Leafs made a minor move as the deadline approaches, trading former QMJHL star Mikhail Stefanovich to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Russian prospect Maxim Kitsyn.

"We felt this was a solid move to make - Maxim is a highly skilled player with top 6, and possibly top 3, potential. While Mikhail has shown flashes of great talent, he's a victim of a numbers game now and we believe with the Kings he'll have more of a chance at reaching the NHL, and we thank him for his contributions to our club."

The Leafs drafted Stefanovich in the 4th round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, 98th overall, while the Kings selected Kitsyn in the 6th round of 2010, 158th overall.

Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski and Boyle are going nowhere.

Setoguchi, Couture, McGinn, Clowe, and Vlasic will be pretty difficult to get. Heatley could be moved, but it will have to be a deal that really strikes my fancy. I also have no problem moving Niemi or Niittymaki, as I feel both are equally capable.

This team absolutely needs a top 4 d-man, but we'd prefer to move young assets (2011 1st, 2nd, Nick Petrecki, Taylor Doherty, and other prospects to get it done).

Isles are looking to solidify their defense and add a top 6 winger.

Schremp, Parenteau, Hunter, Jurcina, Mottau, Hillen, MacDonald, and Gervais are available in addition to picks and prospects not named de Haan, Hamonic, and Petrov. Grabner and Roloson could be moved, although that is not in our plans.

Tavares, Bailey, Moulson, Okposo, Streit, Comeau, Nielsen, Niederreiter, and DiPietro will not be moved. Don't ask.

My Vancouver Canucks ready to make a strong Stanley Cup push with an overhauled 3rd line and blueline. We have some expendable pieces however that we're interested in moving to upgrade some weaker areas.

Kevin Bieksa, Cory Schneider and Cody Hodgson are the 3 main pieces on the block. We're looking to acquire another Top 4 Defenseman, and a gritty 3/4th liner who can PK. Lots of interest in a Top 6 forward but we're pretty tight on cap so no contract dumps please.

Don't ask: Jason Spezza, Daniel Alfredsson, Chris Neil, Peter Regin, Zack Smith, Sergei Gonchar, Erik Karlsson, David Rundblad, Robin Lehner, Louie Caporusso, Bobby Butler, Jakob Silfverberg

Available to some extent: Milan Michalek (only in a package for a better 1st line winger), Nick Foligno (package for #1 goaltender), Chris Kelly, Chris Phillips (hetter come with an offer including a blue-chip forward prospect or a 1st round pick +), Filip Kuba, Jared Cowen (either straight up for a similar calibre forward prospect, or in a package for a #1 goaltender), Patrick Wiercioch and Roman Wick (both same as Cowen).

Actively shopping: Alexei Kovalev (could be a good rental for a playoff team, contracts up at seasons end), Ryan Shannon (good utility player), Chris Campoli (RFA at seasons end).

Team needs: top-line goal scoring forward, top-four shutdown defenseman, #1 goaltender, more forward prospects, picks.

The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has acquired Ben Eager from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for a 2011 5th round draft pick. "We are pleased to have Ben here in Ottawa. We hope that Ben can add a much-need physical dimension to our club."

The Sens also announced the re-signings of the pending UFA's:

Ryan Keller: 1 year $550K
Andre Benoit: 1 year $575K
Mike Brodeur: 1 year $625K

These signings reflect our desire to keep Binghamton as a competitive team, and we view all three as adequate call-ups to the big club in the event of injuries.

Everyone else is possible but it has to make sense for me. St. Louis most likely will stay unless I'm blown away.

Gagne has had a lot of interest so if you are interested then make sure you send an offer my way.

The have sent a conditional 7th Round Pick to the in exchange for veteran Eric Godard. (If Godard exceeds 150+ PIM, the Penguins are rewarded with a 7th Round Pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The Sabres welcome Godard into the lineup as it adds team toughness and to provide protection for our smurfy forwards.
