Yashin has not been part of the national team program for a while and he accepts it. Both him and Sushinsky have had plenty of WC experience and they should both make room for younger players now. Neither are role players like Fedorov or Kozlov for instance, although I hope this is the national team swan song for those two as well.

Svitov and Artyukhin were cut from team russia's roster. Bykov making space for Datsyuk?

Can he still join the team? I wasn't sure if once the tournament started the rosters were "set"?

After the first round (3 games) you can add two more players to the roster.
At least that's what I remember.

Kovalchuk has no business wearing C on his jersey. He's just a useless bum.

Man, Semin needs to pick up the play. If he doesn't pot onew in the Kazakhstan he will have a serious monkey on his back.

I don't get the picking on Semin. This is not the Washington Capitals thread. He's now playing with Ovy and Fedorov and the line did fine today. Semin made a couple of beautiful plays.

Agreed. He might be not present on the scoresheet but in overall he was fine.I much more worried about Ovies lack of creativity in the zone and his constant giveaways.

Needs to pass some medical tests on Tuesday, and then he's good to go.

Russian coach Bykov confirmed it to Sovietsky Sport: http://www.sovsport.ru/news/text-item/385393 (Russian)

He has to pass Detroit's physical tomorrow, then could join the team in Germany by "midweek".

was hoping someone else would've pushed this thread up so i wouldn't have to, but since no one did, color me kinda shocked. i figured datsyuk would need some rest and want to spend time with his family, but it'll be interesting to see him in germany

I admire the Russian pride. They have several stars who played at the olympics and now return to play in the WC. I wish swedish players like Franzén, Zetterberg and Eriksson had the same pride.

Well, the Russians have a center to go with their wingers now. Who will play wing for Datsyuk? Kovalchuk and Afinogenov?

^We saw this in the Olympics.

That said, I think we will see a top 6 of:

Ovechkin(A)-Fedorov(A)-Semin
Kovalchuk(C)-Datsyuk-Frolov

It kind of makes sense, because on Kovalchuk's line you will have a pure sniper, a pure playmaker, and a power forward (which is the recipe for success).

We could just as easily see:

Ovechkin(A)-Fedorov(A)-Semin
Kovalchuk(C)-Datsyuk-Afinogenov

Max had a solid game and his goal on Budaj, and play in the Canada Olympic game, have made a good impression on Bykov.

We'll see if this addition will make good for the team. I know that phrase might sound retarded, but we had enough start even at the Olympics. I still think that our national team should have give room to some of our youngsters, just like most of other elite nations are doing.

Not questioning Datsyuk addition, but the national team needs a few of the Svitov and Artyukhin type.

Svitov would be a fantastic player for the 4th line.....especially against NA teams. Too bad he was cut.
I like how Kulemin adds some two way grit. Artyukhin just sucks though, rather have someone like Saprykin.

hi there,

i love russian hockey since i'm a little kid. and I'm always supporting your team, beside my home country.

I really was looking forward to see Svitov in the olympics, and was as dissapointed as you, when I saw him being not part of the sbornaja.

And after the tough experience in vancouver, I was sure to see bykow making the obvious choice: to give him a real chance at this WC on the 4th line. Unfortunately, once again not.

and while I agree with you about kulemin, I would love to see bykov giving the trio "Artukhin-Svitov-Kulemin" a try. Maybe with the risk of having better choices on the 4th LW than Artukhin against european competition on the larger rinks, it could be a piece of the puzzle to beat an olympic dimension team canada.

And I think beside against Sweden they don't need a 4 line force to beat european teams.

my russian dream team with 13 forwards (only 7 defender) would be:

Kovalchuck- Datsyuk- Radulov
Ovechkin- Malkin- Semin
Frolov- Zynoviev/Anisimov- Afinogenov
Artukhin- Svitov- Kulemin
Anisimov/Zynoviev

but V. Kozlov plays good till now, so Slava's probably right...

Saprykin is a lazy bum and a could have been, Artyukhin came out of NOWHERE to make the NHL and has played more games already (?) than Saprykin ever had. If used properly - Artyukhin can reek havoc against other team's players, he's got the size the speed and the hands - lacks finishing touch and takes dumb penalties, that too...I really want him to be signed to play a 4th line winger over in Boston.

Datsyk is a two-way guy who played hurt at the Olympics, i dunno his health status right now, but I hope he can be useful for the team.
