Kings at the World Championships

I figured I'd get this rolling since a lot of our guys are sure to get invites here soon. Sucks that the season is over but at least some of our guys will get to keep playing.

Quote:
Both Kings' defenceman Drew Doughty and forward Wayne Simmonds said that they would jump at a chance to play for Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championship that gets underway May 7th in Germany.

Kings Participants:

United States:
Jack Johnson (C)
Matt Greene (A)

Canada:
Ryan Smyth (C)

Russia:
Alexander Frolov

Good for them. Wouldnt mind Simmonds' staying home and getting more time in the weight room but the experience should be good nonetheless

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I'm not even sure he'd be asked but as you said, it would be great either way.

Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing Doughty stay home for the simple fact that he could get injured over there(I still think he'll go though). I think JJ will go for the US but im wondering about Brown, I could see him declining.

DD loves the game TOO much to just decline, he'll definitely go. I can also see a lot more guys get invited, the Kings got a lot of media publicity, I wouldn't be surprise if Quick got an invite, Scuderi, just to name a few off the top of my head

DD loves the game too much to turn down the chance because "he might get hurt". I hope JJ, Brown & Quick go as well for USA.

If our Olympians go, they're gonna have played a hell of a lot of hockey this year. That's good, as they'll be getting a huge dose of big-game experience between the Olympics, World Championships, and NHL playoffs, but as mentioned, I want to see guys like Doughty and Simmonds really step up their offseason training.

Doughty and Brown have both declined to play in the World Championships due to injuries. Frolov and Johnson are expected to play though.

Quick is probably exhausted too, I doubt he plays. . . probably wants to spend time with his kid and maybe do some damage to Mrs. Quick's interiors since she's not preggo anymore.

I wonder if the Kings told Doughty that they wouldn't release him? If he hurt himself in game 1, why would Doughty say that he would "jump at the chance" to play for Canada right after game 6?

I wonder if the original writer just made that up about Doughty and Simmonds.

Maybe it was something said before the playoffs in the form of "If you get knocked out of the playoffs, would you JUMP at the opportunity to play in the World Championship?"

You also have to remember it was the Canadian media reporting that. Doughty is currently the golden boy up there second only to probably Crosby. I'm guessing they based that original report on the interview with Drew available on NHL.com where he said he would play if his injury situation checked out.

I don't think it was ever as cut and dry as they made it out to be.

There goes the injury theory for his piss poor play down the stretch.

Can you imagine him playing like he was in the playoffs on the international ice??

I would think he would have got an invite before Matt Greene and declined but it's hard to say.

Jack Johnson had a PP goal and Matt Greene had an assist in Team USA's 3-1 exhibition victory over France today.

I haven't seen any reports on it yet. I'd think it's safe to say that Jack, Greene, Greene and Yandle are the top 4 though.

Jack Johnson was named Captain of the USA WC team.

Matt Greene is an Assistant Captain.
