I go into every year hoping to pay for the 10 games I try to go to for free. 2 years ago the tickets sold so good I actually only went to about 7 games but netted $3000 profit. Last year I went to 8-9 games but only made about $1800. This year It seems like I am going to more games (probably about 12) but will only clear $1000.
The market has saturated a little but if you sell to co-workers and repeat buyers you will make your money on Opening Night,Holiday games and Rivalry games and get killed on the 3 pre-season games. It was nice 3 years ago with only 2 pre-season games thanks to being in Europe. I just want to enjoy myself and not lose my shirt. The Rangers have always been a hot ticket and they look like a team on the rise. I post my games on ticketexchange and stubhub and ticketweasel.com and have found that the premium games sell good. I also try to give away a few games for free to fans I know who are having hard times financially. So basically in the end it is a wash for me as I hope most fans.

i just gotta compliment u because ur one of the generous people who help people out when they struggle financially. i am not a season ticket holder but i do buy alot of games happily and i just wanted to commend u for that, its classy
I have sold everything I wanted to sell for face value. I sell to about 3 or 4 different guys, a package of anywhere from 4-13 games. I mix them up with some popular games, some middle games, and some games that noone cares about (including pre-season). Games against teams like Calgary, Edmonton, Nashville, Columbus are the games that are tough to sell on their own. Part of the reason why I loved the schedule format when they first came out of the lockout with 8 division games and only 10 against the West.
Last year, I held onto a few games to put on the exchange at a premium, but couldn't sell them. Sold Washington for $60 each and that was it. This year, I didn't bother. The years past I was able to get more than double face (I sit in 400's) for a couple of weekend games in March.
We have a bad economy, and as someone else said an oversaturated market. Repealing the scalping laws have actually put the traditional scalper out of business (as I knew it would when it happened). For years the average tom, dick, and harry was afraid to publicly try to sell tickets. Now, people are buying tickets with the same idea that chris6net has and that is to sell a bunch at a premium so they can go for free. Don't think it is working for most people.
put my tickets for 12/27 against nyi on ticketexchange yesterday for 65 a piece and they already sold..
Yea I finally sold three games on TE this week, got rid of the Islanders games for 70 a piece and 60 a piece for the 2 games this month, and sold the January Montreal game just for face on TE.
It no longer pays to try to make money in the resale market..the resale market is now carefully monitored by the team via ticketexchange..if they see the reseller is making big profits ticket prices will go up....games can't even be sold now at face value for many games so trying to make up the difference on rivalry and weekend games will no longer turn a profit and the mandatory 3 pre-season game buy kills the seller....that is why so many season tickets are available in 200 level and below. Have season in center ice 300 level...guys next to me had a broken seat Monday vs Pitt and account rep came up with 4 tickets for them (they have two seats) and my friend and i took the other 2 to sit in an upgrade in the loge versus Pittsburgh...for Pittsburgh they could not even sell out the loge...the average hockey fan no longer wants to be gouged..that is the bottom line

I think what is going to happen is what they have already started on a limited basis which is a multi-tiered pricing structure where you have games against Wild ETC. at a lower price, Bruins at a middle price and Pens,Caps,Devils and Holiday games at a premium price. That is just my prediction going forward.

I think this will happen, too. However, I think at first it will apply only to individual game and mini-plan sales. Full-season will likely be based on one price. It would be easier if they did in fact put different prices on each game for full-season ticket holders, but I doubt it. For example, for the Isles make my tickets $45 each instead of $37, but then Calgary can be $29 each to make up the difference.

are you in the 400's?
Aside from the opener, this was the one game I figured would sell well. Rangers-isles, kids are off from school the next day, college kids are home, perfect Christmas/Channukah gift=good seller. I saved this and took the 2 from the guy next to me knowing my little brother would be home from Afghanistan.
i actually had a buddy cancel on me, so i got 3 tix in section 327 for sale on craigslist, no buyers, if anyone here wants to make an offer, pm me, hard tix, i can meet before the game at the garden or somewhere in rockland, westchester, jersey

It is a very difficult to price season tickets. There are so many variables to consider. Tier pricing by team works on a game by game basis but what if the game is played on a Sunday afternoon versus a Wednesday night? A holiday week versus not? A game played in conflict with a World series game, etc? How easy is it for STH to sell tickets if the team is uncompetitive?
Consider.... Is a seat in row G equal in value to Row M? A seat dead center equal to a seat two sections over? The number of SKU's are enormous.
My thought on proper pricing of season tickets should allow the seat holder to break even (over time) before expenses. The real money is made when the tix becomes "hot". I won't even discuss how economic conditions affect resales. If the losses (on resales) are too great then the incentive to renew is diminished (just like buying tix at a higher price per game).
I agree that the amount of info being obtained by MSG will ultimately enable the CO to better understand the relative value of each seat. I suspect that they will build in a small quantity discount to the STH but not enough for the buyer to make any real money. I suspect that the real value of a season ticket is locking in a seat location that the buyer is happy with?
Well it looks like the Rangers are now selling tickets at less than subscriber face. You can purchase a pair of tickets to 3 games in the 100s/200s (subscriber cost of at least $95/ticket) for only $485. So that's an $85 savings...not to mention you also get a long sleeve t-shirt, an autographed puck, access to the playoff pre-sale and a membership to Blueshirts United. Any chance if I call in they'll agree to give me a refund/t-shirt/puck?

A)If someone is interested in seeing the Penguins.. how much would they have to pay for the tix in the exchange? My guess $125 for the $95 tix? If I am correct the other two games would cost down to $57 per tix which makes the deal Ok?

But as a Season Subscriber I was promised a discount off individual ticket prices. I guess they technically aren't violating this as these are 3 packs...but I'm still pissed about it.

Access to the playoff presale ???? Do partial plan members even get that ??
I think they do, but I've never had a partial plan so I can't say for sure. To me the access to the pre-sale is not really a huge deal (as long as partial plan holders get it too.) I just find it infuriating that they are selling tickets for about $15 below my cost as a season subscriber. The shirt and signed puck just add insult to injury.

Call them up and complain
