Lemaire "retires"

New Jersey : Coaches :: Edmonton : Free Agents

Guess that's what happens when you don't have Marian Gaborik around. But in all seriousness, it looks like last year's Wild team still ate at Lemaire.

Lemaire nearly retired when he stepped down as head coach of the Minnesota Wild after last season, but Lamoriello convinced him to give it another try with the Devils.

ďIt started my last year in Minnesota,Ē Lemaire said. ďI was starting to think about retirement and Lou came to my place (in Montreal) and asked me if I was interested to coach again. I looked at the team, looked at the organization and I got excited again because I love the game and always have passion for the game, especially (because) it was Lou and I worked for him in the past and I knew how he does things and the team. I felt we had a chance to do good in the playoffs. I went on and accepted the challenge.

ďThe year went really well. Itís not the problems that you have with the players. Itís nothing. Itís part of the game. Itís not the team. Itís not the lack of result that we had in the playoffs. Itís not that at all. I just find that itís the end of the line. Iíll be 65. Itís just time.Ē

Lemaire said a lack of energy was a problem for him ďat different timesĒ during the season.

ďI had it at different times last year, although last year I didnít work out,Ē he said. ďI didnít work out the last 10 years. It was only this year that I started to work out and I felt a lot better, but I could see at times you travel and you come back from little trips that we had here in the East. You still get tired and youíve got to go to bed earlier, all that stuff, to try to be as sharp as possible with the players. But, overall, I even felt better than I did the last year in Minnesota because of the training I did.Ē
