Agreed.

Too bad it won't be with the kings.

25-30 goals will be a tall order for a guy who is only going to play in 50 or so games. He could do it but it will be a tall order.

I really hope Moller can step up to fill Williams role/production next year.

Although it is more likely I think, positionally and depth speaking, that Moller fills Frolov's spot if Fro leaves.

I guess I just really want Moller on this team and in the top 6 where he can do some damage.

Canucks actually started playing better when they got away from the gritty play(hitting everything that moved) and started playing and using their speed and skill which was greater than LA. You don't intimidate the Kings with checking you do it with speed. Nashville, Phoenix, Edmonton, Chicago, and Vancouver are all uptempo speed teams and Kings have trouble handling that.

Kings defensemen had problems with the forecheck of the Nucks all series. I said it at the trading deadline and to all my Hockey buddies that it was not forwards we needed but a defenseman or 2. I think DL spent all his energy trying to land Kolvachuk that when it didn't happen he lost out on some defenseman. He should have made that his #1 priority and not Kolvachuk. You can't tell me that Nashville would not have traded Hamhuis for the right deal from the Kings? Even if that was not an option you had Siedenberg, Morris, Schneider, Jurcina, and even Corvo all traded by their teams for little in return as upgrades over Jones and Harrold.

The Kings need more than just a scoring winger. If we sign Kovalchuk at something like 8M, addressing the rest of the roster needs is going to be difficult.

Forwards
Kovalchuck 8
Kopitar 6.8
Smyth 6.25
Handzus 4
Stoll 3.6
Williams 3.5
Brown 3.175
Lewis .855
Simmonds .822
Richardson 1.5 (Guess)
Clune .618 (MQO)
Parse .605 (MQO)
Westgarth .525
40.25

Defenseman
Doughty 3.475
Scuderi 3.4
Greene 2.95
Johnson 1.425
Voynov .846
Drewiske .600
Harrold .583
13.279

Goaltenders
Quick 1.7
Bernier .843
2.543

Buyouts
McCauly .667

Total = 56.739

Projected CAP for 10-11: 57.7M

That line up would look something like this:

Kovalchuck - Kopitar - Williams
Smyth - Stoll - Brown
Richardson - Handzus - Simmonds
Clune - Lewis - Parse
Westgarth

Scuderi - Doughty
Johnson - Greene
Drewiske - Voynov
Harrold

Quick
Bernier

A good line up, but a weak 4th line, and a week bottom pair on defense. There's probably enough CAP space to sign a bottom 6 role player (Grier, Modin, ect.), but not enough to sign the additional top 6 defenseman we need.

The only way the Kings sign Kovalchuk is if we deal someone. We can't commit 8 to 10 million to him and have room left for a d-man and re-sign Doughty long term.

No way both Drewiske and Voynov become the #5 and #6. Ridiculous. Drewiske does not replace O'Donnell and though Voynov may replace Jones, he has never played one NHL game.

Mark my words and others, Kings will sign at least 1 D-man.

Yes but without any experience one of either Voynov, Davis or Muzzin (my choice to replace Jones) can only be a vast improvement over Jones.

In fact, Muzzin at 21 should be able to step onto the team at the midway point and become a solid #5 option for us if he continues playing as well as he has been.

I agree with everything you said, which is why I don't think we'll be seeing all Kovalchuck in a Kings uniform next year.

I have a strong feeling DL goes after Martin St. Louis. His 5.25M CAP hit allows the Kings to add another defenseman, and it doesn't handcuff the organization in regards to signing our important RFA's in the future. Plus MSL has all the little "team" attributes that Lombardi LOVES.

I would take Plekanec over St Louis without a doubt. Plek is much younger, an adept scoring threat and will be able to be had for less than $5mill per not to mention that Plek has some physical element to his game where St Louis ....well......don't.

Not sure how you're feeling that one. Plus why would Tampa even considering dealing St.Louis? If anything they should be extending him. St.Louis and Stamkos are a terrific duo.

And I want a shinny new puppy and a new pair of love handles but if you give me a good enough bump in my current salary and a chance to play for a cup with a good young team (just like he can in Montreal, well sort of young) then I am going for the money.

I think that he has said that in order to increase his dollar value.

The only reason I'm feeling this is because A)There's been speculation that MSL wants out of Tampa B) The Kings need a scoring winger and C) He is the exact type of player DL likes.

Will it happen? Slim chance, but I think DL will inquire. It depends on if MSL forces Tampa's hand or not, and if Tampa can't get a better offer than DL's which will not include Schenn, Bernier, or likely any significant roster player. Just picks and prospects.

It is possible that star wing Marty St. Louis could ask to be traded if he does not believe the upcoming offseason changes make the team a playoff contender.

At least that's the impression he gave Monday at the St. Pete Times Forum after coach Rick Tocchet and general manager Brian Lawton were fired.

"I want to be on a winning team," he said. "It's three years of this and (we're going) back to square one, so I want to be on a winning team. That's the biggest thing. I'm not getting any younger. We'll see how it all shakes out this summer."

Plek will want a long term deal, and he doesn't fit into the Kings' long term plans. He'll likely get more than 5M.

Where was it that MStL went the last time he asked to be traded and how did that go for him.......where could it be.......lets see....could it have been.....SATAN!

Go ahead MStL...Go ahead with your little tiny frame and your lustful south beach and your lurid French Canadian friend "vinny".....go ahead and lets see where you end up at the end of your life...go ahead little Marty......go ahead and get ready to meet.........SATAN!

Now dance!

I don't see him getting more than $5 per and also can't see how he wouldn't fit with our long term plans.

I come in peace as an Ottawa fan

Chris Neil had a great playoff and is a grinder that I think your team needs. We are need of young goal scorer. I was wondering if there is a deal out there that would make both teams better.

If we had a young goal scorer we wouldn't all want a mid-age or old goal scorer.

Welcome in Wilfred (former 67 here) and I agree, CN would be a near perfect fit for us especially as a character guy. As to what we have to offer in return it would be players like Parse or maybe a Richardson so i don't see us as perfect trading partners but, maybe there is something else we could do.

Funny and I agree for the most part. I think Kopi back checks and plays a more committed 2 way game.

I also think Kovalchuck would do more for this team than we can comprehend.

When can teams make trades again? After the Finals or is there a specific date?
