Round 2: Detroit vs. San Jose (this is last years series 2010)

If the Sharks win, it could be big because they get the monkey off their back. If the Wings win, that's a lot of momentum going into the WCF. We'll see.

I know people like to write off San Jose, and with good reason, but I am not sure how this series will turn out. I know it wasn't obvious this game but I think the Wings might still be gassed. And the travel won't help a bit with that.

Wings have just won 3 out of 4 games. They are just finding their playoff stride.
Much Love for TM but sorry dude, going down in 5

Detroit handled the end of this game in the best way; they got their feet on Phoenix's throat and got themselves a good ten minutes of low intensity, restful hockey to end the game.

I think Detroit comes out with intensity in Game One of the next series.

SJ is going to be a really tough opponent. But I guess it's the opponent we would want the most for round 2. We have a really good track record this season. Their goalie is ticking and some of their players are on fire.

I say Detroit takes this in 6, but wouldn't be surprised if SJ pushed all the way.

I hope some people here will be happy no matter if Detroit wins or loses against San Jose. Especially after the success the last few seasons.

San Jose will and should be favored...but I don't trust them and believe Detroit will live for another round.

Once they were up 6-1 I figured even a jinx couldn't help the Coyotes.

I'd be fine with a Vancouver matchup but I'd love to play Chicago again (and beat them again).

Should be an interesting series. Either they breakthrough, or we're off to four straight Conference Finals.

Game 1 sounds to be on Thursday.

People here love to bag on the Sharks but I don't like it. The Wings haven't exactly been monoliths of playoff dominance every night either, and if the Sharks ever put it together they could wipe the Wings out pretty easily.

I went with the Sharks in 7 because I don't trust the Sharks to win a short series, but I don't trust the Wings to bring it every night either and if both teams half-ass it I think the Sharks win the series. The Wings had a couple games in this series where they were just plain out of gas. I don't like the way that extrapolates into another round against a deep, fast, physical team like the Sharks.

I want to enjoy this series win while I can, but if we're being serious and predicting I've got to go this way.

Detroit in 4!

Actually, I think it'll be at least a 6-game series.

If we lose to Chicago i'll definitely be jumping on the Wings bandwagon as per usual. I'd just love to see a Detroit vs Vancouver match up for personal reasons. I grew up watching both teams a lot and it would be a series where I wouldn't be disappointed too much about either outcome.

Well, Chicago-Vancouver will be a Game 1 Saturday game. Possibly on NBC.

But, Washington and Pittsburgh are both playing in the East, and one of them SHOULD play on Sunday.

So it could go either way if we get the NBC afternoon game or the evening game.

This wouldn't be an upset or a playoff choke by San Jose if we win this series. We are just as good as they are.

the good news is that the sharks rarely get home afternoon games because they are on the west coast so hopefully we can avoid an afternoon game till at least game 5 or 6

If it's Pittsburgh/Boston, I'd wager that will be the other NBC game.

Bottom line....Datsyuk>Thornton and Zetterberg>Pavelski. Add to that Detroit's history of getting better as they advance and the sleeping giant Franzen and I don't see the Sharks ever dispatching Detroit "pretty easily". Detroit in 6. Just as an aside, I consider San Jose neither deep or fast, and while certainly more skilled definitely not as physical as Phoenix.
