Final Grades for the players, TM & DL

Caught this from Hammonds.

Halpern D pretty much sucked
Greene B did his job
Frolov C+ just never really got it going
Ersberg C+ was never really given a chance
Drewiske C i consider his season a wash
Doughty A Norris!!!
Clune B- yeah, he didn't win fights but he did his job without stupid penalties
Brown B came on strong when it counted
Bernier A- no complaints just yet
Richie B+ most improved and heavily relied upon
Smyth B- great start but unfortunately, the season's longer than 20 games
Stoll B- he did what he could
Simmonds B+ another big step for the night train!
Zeus B+ assparks like no one on the team
Scud B+ very solid
JJ B inconsistent early but closed strong
OD B- old yeller
Kopi B needs to be more consistent
JW C+ pretty good when not injured
Modin B pleasant surprise. don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Jones D scored a bit in the beginning then everything fell apart
Parse B- "give parse a chance"-adevendry
Harrold C+ steady and boring
Ivanans C+ played fairly well i thought
Moller B can't wait to see him next year
Quick B not great numbers but still did an admirable job

TM B- finally learn to like the guy, before questioning him, again and again
DL B+ put together a playoff worthy team without giving up on our prospects

Well, allot of these grades make some sense to me but not all of them, I figure I will just list the ones I see differently.

Halpern-F He was a hit or miss deal and I didn't see him do anything that our own players couldn't have done instead. Can you say Craig Laughlin?

Clune - C He was O.K. but seems to need a head to go with his heart. So far I call him tinman.

Brown - C, If he wasn't our captain I would have given him a B but I expect more out of our Cap

Scud - A, He did exactly what we expected him to do and stepped right in.

Jones - F, A total failure who was played as a favorite by a coach who seems to have a hard time assessing talent. He did score some nice goals but he was worse than he was better.

Quick -A, His first full season and playoffs and he did a great job. He was beat towards the end of the season and it showed but he did a great job all things considered.

TM -C, The guy has a system and it works during the regular season but each and every time he has forced to go outside of it he proves, as he has during his entire career that he can't adapt. He is a good bridge coach but not a coach who can win the cup and I feel that it was his lack of adaptability (line juggling doesn't equate to adapting) that cost us the series against the Yucks.

Those are the only things that I see differently than the OP.

Maybe I'm missing something... but you're naming a guy who has heart after a character... who needed a heart?

Did you mean Scarecrow?

Nope

I meant that he played with heart but needed some smarts (when to use it to be more effective) to go with it.

I like Clune but have yet to see him separate himself from the pack of players like him in our system.

Halpern- C+ - He didn't do too bad.
Greene B+ - Monster in our Zone!
Frolov - B- - Showed sparks of greatness at times
Ersberg - C+ - Work on your Shoot-outs, If you could've won them both vs. EDM we would've played PHX
Drewiske - C+ - You should've had more chances than Jones.
Doughty - A+ - What else to ask for? You are my HERO!
Clune - B- - Not bad at all
Brown - B- - Is your kid still affecting you? However you were clutch at critical times..
Bernier - B - We'll see how you do next year..
Richie - A - What a season!
Smyth - B- - Age got you in the later parts of the season. Your Salary is ridiculous!
Stoll - B - You were decent. Though I did not see your "zinger" shot from the point that we expected you to have when we got you.
Simmonds - A- - Keep on going!!
Zeus - A - Could you say Mr. CLUTCH!
Scud - B - Did what you had to do..
JJ - B - got better as the season progressed. Olympics helped you greatly!
OD - C+ - You have to retire, you had a great career!
Kopi - B+ - Consistency that will eventually come to you!
JW - B- - We had hopes that you were not gonna get injured, you sounded confident in an interview last year about this year, You were nowhere to be found at the last part of the season
Modin - B - Great playoffs!
Jones - F - GET OUT OF HERE!
Parse - B - You had good energy out there
Harrold - C - Really didn't do much but was a stable guy when needed.
Ivanans - C - I would only keep you b/c you fight great!
Moller - B- - Can't wait for next year!
Quick - A- - You got XP under your belt I expect you to be even better HOPEFULLY come playoff time.

TM - B - At times you could have made better decisions. Overall, you were great!
DL - A - Keep it going, no real grade for you as you will be graded this off-season.

That's because I haven't gotten around to my grades yet

Halpern- C: Bad in the regular season. Better in the post.
Greene B+: The warrior does his duty.
Frolov - B+: For playing monster defense and flashes of brilliance.
Ersberg - C-: Played some good games, but not at the right times.
Drewiske - C: Injury killed him.
Doughty - A+: Duh.
Clune - C+: Good, not great.
Brown - B: Took big strides in his leadership, still a ways to go.
Bernier - INCOMPLETE
Richie - A-: Major man love for Richie.
Smyth - B: A for the first half of the season. B for the second half. C for the playoffs.
Stoll - B: Does his thing.
Simmonds - B: Came back too soon from injury. Long stretch on nothing play mid-season keeps him from getting the A.
Zeus - A: All that an NHLer should be.
Scud - B+: Paired nicely with Doughty. Steady steady.
JJ - B-: Please play the whole season like you did in the playoffs. All the games matter.
OD - B-: Can't fault him for getting played too much.
Kopi - B+: Got to avoid those scoring droughts dude.
JW - C+: Before injury, A+. After... well, not so much.
Modin - A: Far as his time with the Kings, Mo kicked major ass.
Jones - J: He gets a special letter. Well below a fail. J is for Jackass and Jackass is for Jones.
Parse - C: Consistency dude.
Harrold - B+: When used, he played up to his role quite nicely.
Ivanans - B: The best hockey I've ever seen him play. Too bad its still AHL level hockey.
Moller - C: Didn't quite have the same drive as he did last year.
Quick - A: Again, not his fault he got played too much. All things considered, Quick was stellar more than he wasn't. Everyone needs a learning experience and you learned more than anyone this season.
TM - B-: Good season coach, though at times I felt the team was playing well despite you. A for system. D for handling the goalies.
DL - A: The first fruits of your labor were oh so sweet. I'm excited for phase 5.

Halpern C -- Face-offs and penalty kill were the strong points. The only strong points.
Greene A -- When's the last time you griped about Greene's play? I can't remember either. It doesn't get any better than that for a defensive defenseman. Any knock I'd give him for his speed is more than made up for by the fact that he's a warrior.
Frolov B- -- Good to great most nights in his own end. Offensive production in a contract year was underwhelming.
Ersberg B- -- I thought he was a serviceable backup. People in the organization didn't agree.
Drewiske C- -- Terrible 2nd half. Essentially forced TM to overplay Jones down the stretch.
Doughty A+ -- Norris finalist. Olympic Gold Medal. Generational talent.
Clune C -- Average dime-a-dozen agitator who can't score.
Brown B -- Good postseason. Growing into his Captaincy. Learning on the job. Needs to keep his game simple and pass the puck more often.
Bernier A -- As good as it gets when you only play 3 games and win them all. A big pressure moment for him that he handled stellarly.
Richardson A -- I don't know what more I could ask of the guy in the role he's in. He's got good wheels and played well in every position he was placed in.
Smyth B- -- Great start but inconsistent down the stretch.
Stoll B- -- Not a great postseason.
Simmonds B+ -- For GOD sakes... EAT SOMETHING. A few more pounds and you'll be a force.
Hanzdus A -- There isn't anything this guy does that I don't like.
Scuderi B+ -- Not the speediest, but solid.
Johnson B -- Needs to continue to work on coverage in his own end.
O'Donnell B- -- If he returns, his minutes need to be cut way back.
Kopitar B+ -- Conditioning is an issue. Sky is the limit. I liked what I saw from a leadership perspective this year. Learning to be a leader on the job.
Williams B- -- Great start. Bad finish. Stay healthy.
Modin B+ -- I'd like to see him back.
Jones F -- Way too overused but the F is for pea-sized hockey smarts. TM gets some blame for the overuse, but his hands were tied due to injuries + Drewiske sucking wind. Too many bad decisions with and without the puck.
Parse B- -- I don't know why I feel this way, but I really think this guy can break out next season. It could be gas.
Harrold B- -- We all know what Harrold brings, which is a lot of "ho-hum" in whatever position he plays.
Ivanans D -- Basically a waste of a roster spot. I didn't give him a F because intimidation DOES help, but that's all he brought to the table.
Moller B -- See Simmonds.
Quick B+ -- Ran out of gas at the end. Good to great for 60 games. Unfortunately he played ~75.

Murray B -- Great system that played to team strengths. Good balance of puck possession vs. dump and chase. Overuse of Jones and Quick were negatives and a bit too much line juggling.

Lombardi A -- Keep up the good work Deano!

I gave him a slight step up mainly due to his good scoring at the beginning which helped us hit 100 points in the end, but that is about the only positive I take away from the whole situation. I will be glad once training camp rolls around again and I hopefully don't see his name on the roster anymore.

Halpern C- -- Decent job on the PK, but I was expecting more.
Greene B+ -- Tough in front of the net on the PK. This guy is all heart.
Frolov B- -- Still one of the smartest players on the ice on any given night. Too bad his body language doesn't translate into "I'll do anything it takes to win."
Ersberg C -- Didn't get much of a chance, but couldn't really be trusted.
Drewiske C- -- Very disappointed that he couldn't get back in the lineup ahead of Jones. Was he that bad in practice?
Doughty A -- Norris finalist. Olympic Gold Medal. Generational talent. (Can't improve on what Tony wrote)
Clune C -- Works hard. His position with the team in the future will depend a lot on how good he is in the room.
Brown B -- A very good north/south player that has enough speed to take the puck wide and get to the net. This kid really cares and deserves to be the captain. Give him time.
Bernier INC -- Expecting big things in the future.
Richardson B -- Great season. Could be a break out year for him next season.
Smyth B -- Good leader and taught Kopitar a lot.
Stoll B- -- When he is on he is one of the best forwards on the team, but very inconsistent.
Simmonds B -- Hope this kid keeps working hard. I think that is what makes him a very good player.
Hanzdus A -- Solid in every way.
Scuderi B+ -- Great partner for Doughty.
Johnson B- -- Play a whole season like those first three games of the series against Vancouver and this will be an A next off season.
O'Donnell C+ -- Great gritty leader, but slowing down a lot.
Kopitar B+ -- It's a little to soon to give him a A, especially when he disappeared for so many games in the middle of the season.
Williams C -- Smart player with bad luck.
Modin B -- Hope he stays.
Jones F -- Can't argue with people that say his hockey sense is poor.
Parse B- -- Can be a good 3rd liner in this league with the ability to fill in on the top 6 from time to time.
Harrold C -- Servicable.
Ivanans D -- Didn't impress at all this season.
Moller B- -- If the Kings acquire a forward like Sharp, I could see Oscar going the other way.
Quick B+ -- Big, strong, athletic all great attributes for a goalie. I think he got a little mentally fatigued at the end.
Murray B -- Good coach for a young team. Holds players accountable. He did use Quick too much though.
Lombardi B+ -- Still some more work to be done, but I am confident that Dean will get the job done.

Halpern D The people told me he will show up in Playoff. But he didn't. Simply no skill
Greene B did his job
Frolov C- Lost his offensive game. We will see him on another club picking it up
Ersberg C Really hard to tell something
Drewiske B To bad, Murray ignored him, he is mobile and has decent hands
Doughty A Simply and plain A
Clune D No hockey IQ and doesn't understand what a 4th line is doing.
Brown A- The real Brown showed up in PLayoff
Bernier A- Solid games and will be a hell of a starter contender for Quick
Richie B+ Our second best center, unfortunately Murray ignores the fact
Smyth C- Zero hockey sense as long as he isn't in front of the goal
Stoll D Lost his only weapon and makes the team easy to defend
Simmonds B made strides here and there
Zeus B+ Big, big surprise
Scud B+ very solid
JJ B+ will be a stud next year and on his new team in 2012
OD C- lost everything
Kopi B needs linemates.
JW C+ pretty good when not injured
Modin B gave his best
Jones D i don't know what to say. Turn over machine
Parse B- almost a lock for the 3rd line. Completely ignored by Murray
Harrold C-Can't defend or create offense. Millions of these guys in beer leagues
Ivanans E Isn't a hockey player. Not to mention NHL player
Moller C 50/50 chance of being a bust or top 6
Quick B the reason to be in Playoff but had his weak games there

TM E Throw puck to the net and hope for rebounds isn't a game plan.
His rugby the boards style will not create high quality chances.
A monkey could do his job

DL C Did an awsome job to bring in players without giving up to much and give the Kings a chance to win.
But he is afraid to ask for the next step.He is happy with with 2 steps below what the team is able to do. His feelings for the coachign staff makes me questioning him.

If everybody is gonna give Jones a D or an F (or even a J), then Drewiske and Harrold must get the same.
They couldn't get into the lineup over Jones.

If they couldn't get in because TM preferred Jones over the other two, I'm not going to punish the other two. It's not their fault that TM favors Jones. When they were both in there early in the season, I thought they were both ok. Harrold actually had some real good games down the stretch but again, TM preferred Jones.

Halpern D+ - Useless IMO
Greene A- -- A Relative grade (well, these are all grades relative to our expectations of each player and their perceived talent ceilings). Certainly didn't bring offense, but did his job, hits, blocked a ton of shots, generally made smart plays
Frolov B- -- Smart player. If he ever finds a line he clicks with on a regular basis, he could be a ppg guy. He's skilled enough, just needs a sniper with him.
Ersberg B -- I thought he played well in the games he was given, the last playoff game aside. I think he's a serviceable backup, though there is room for improvment.
Drewiske D -- He's a step below Harrold I think.
Doughty A -- Norris finalist. Olympic Gold Medal. Generational talent. (copied, deservedly so)
Clune N/A -- Didn't watch enough of him to form an opinion
Brown B -- When Brown is on his game, he's a stud. I'd have to match bland's and several others opinion, he often makes dumb desicions with the puck. He seems to be best when he's a bull in a china shop, hitting, not hesitating. I think he shows heart though, and takes his role as captain seriously.
Bernier INC -- Expecting big things in the future. (copied)
Richardson D/B+ -- Started off kinda slow in the season. Towards the end and into the playoffs, he was playing really well.
Smyth B- -- Good leader and taught Kopitar a lot. I don't know if I'm crazy here, but I thought he looked lazy in some of the playoff games. Maybe he was hurt. I don't know.
Stoll B- -- When he is on he is one of the best forwards on the team, but very inconsistent. Plays hard though, can't fault him for that.
Simmonds B -- Hope this kid keeps working hard. I think that is what makes him a very good player. Needs to work his shot and puck handling, and he can be a deadly player.
Hanzdus A -- Solid in every way. (copied, and agree really). Faceoffs, defense, scores ugly goals, he's one of the better 3rd line centers out there.
Scuderi B+ -- Great partner for Doughty. Generally makes good decisions.
When he's on his game, he's the best player in the league though (ok, maybe that was too much haha).
Williams C -- I don't know if he was still hurt or what, but he looked lazy in the playoffs as well. He's usually a smart player, but I thought he looked shaky, and couldn't handle a puck for the life of him for a long time.
Modin B -- For a while he skated like the wind! (hah) but yea, I thought he gave the Kings offense a little boost there. I would'nt mind having him back for another year (just 1 though).
Jones FU -- ...
Parse B- -- A decent hockey player, good scoring instincts, decent passer. If he gets ample time he could be a good player.
Harrold C -- Servicable.
Ivanans D -- I'd rather have Bailey on the 4th line.
Moller N/A- -- Gets knocked off the puck too easily still, but has a good nose and is pretty fearless for his size. Still, too small a sample size to judge this season.
Quick B- -- Yea he set a record, but played as much as Broduer. I don't know how much this "he was tired stuff is true" since I don't play goal, but he was pretty terrible from the olympic break on (one in which he didn't even play).
Murray B- -- Coached well I thought, but did some dumb line juggling when things were going well. Also, played Quick too much and Jones too much.
Lombardi A- -- Great drafting, was issued a challenge to make the playoffs, and the team he built did it. This grade could change drastically every year now since the playoffs should be expected now.
