Myers to play for Team Canada at World Championships

Quote:
Mark Messier has beefed up his blue-line for the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championship, adding defencemen Tyler Myers and Michael Del Zotto
...

The six-foot-seven Myers is a finalist for the Calder Trophy after putting up 11 goals and 48 points in 82 regular-season games with the Sabres.

The 20-year-old is a dual citizen because he was born in Houston and moved to Calgary when he was 10. He made the decision to play internationally for Canada as a junior

Not too surprising, especially after he said he would play if asked. Good for Tyler. I suppose the mods can merge this with the Kennedy thread.

Happy to hear this and happy to see all the recognition Myers' is getting after a very good rookie season. Good for him to get some experience, too.

Is it wrong that it bothers me the kid was born in Texas but plays for Team Canada? It's purely for selfish reasons, obviously...

Pretty sure I read in an interview that he felt he was trained in the Canadian system so he felt it was his obligation to repay them by playing for them since he has dual citizenship.

Thanks! Unfortunately I've got tickets in the upper level but I may get some good (close) pictures during the warmup. I'll definitely share them.

All I know is next time a Canadian complains about Stastny playing for the US, I can point to this.

Just re-read my post, hopefully ya'll realize that I meant *I'm* selfish for wanting him to play for USA Hockey, not *he's* selfish for taking the Canada route.

I would trade Stastny to Team Canada for Myers. It's not like he'd make any of their teams anyway.
