Lemaire is a hard guy to rate IMO. He really is a quirky genius, great at divising systems to "break" the NHL. But when the rest of the league adapts, Lemaire stubbornly sticks to what doesn't work anymore. Part of the Devil's early success this year was that Lemaire had the defensemen sending long stretch passes up to the forwards, rather than having either the defensemen or forwards ever skating with the puck. But about halfway through the season, the rest of the league adapted and started picking off the stretch passes, basically killing the Devils breakout. Lemaire never adapted. It got to the point that even the color commentators on opponent's broadcasts started to notice.

There's was also a big discussion on the Devils board recently where one of my favorite posters pointed out that Lemaire went downhill as soon as his assistant Larry Robinson left after 1995. Larry was always the more offensive minded of the two coaches and the guy who was more in tune with the players, so they worked well together.

Lemaire's assistant in Minnesota and in his last stint in NJ was Mario Tremblay.... enough said.

Lemaire is also a guy who will run his system, regardless of the players in the lineup, but that's a problem that almost every NHL coach to varying degrees.

That's not true. I've definitely at least considered voting for HHH in all 3 rounds. Believe me, it's been tough though.

So then, like Keenan, he is an excellent "one year" coach!

I'm taking him next ATD.

Hahaha, if I can vote for Babcock after that debacle of monumental proportions that was the round robin US-Canada game, I'm sure TDMM could vote for Lemaire.

BTW, I'm also confirming that I'm teaming up with ALB. Be prepared for a Grabner-Hodgson-Schroeder second line, guys.

It would be nice to have a 16-team draft (two divisions of 8 each).

Invite a friend.
Choose a team name to get a spot.

A mass recruitment PM campaign of past GMs will happen by month's end.

The 2010 MLD Draft begins June 15th.

I think I'm going to join the MLD. I had computer troubles again at the end of the ATD 2010, and it seems every time i'm involved in the ATD my computer crashes.

According to Stan Fischler, a renowned author and commentator on hockey, "In the early 1900s a local league also sprung up, called the Bankers League. Some of the banks started a hockey league as a promotional stunt and brought Canadians down and gave them jobs in the banks. They were down here to play hockey but in order to qualify and play for the bank they had to be an employee of the bank. I don't know what they gave them to do at the bank, but it wasn't much." This led to the Bankers laying partial claim to being one of the first teams to pay athletes.

Let's get some more teams here!

If we get 16 then we're looking at 1104 drafted players and coaches, and maybe there won't be a need to tack on a 10-team AAA and a 4-team AA for the hardcores, and said hardcores can actually get a true break from drafting for a change.

More importantly, I think it will be awesome to see how the pecking order changes in a large MLD. Which former 3rd/4th line staples have the skills to make the jump to MLD scoring lines? Which great AAA scorers who didn't quite have the MLD goods before (maybe small, or soft) now get to make the jump? And do they find homes on scoring lines in this larger league, or 3rd/4th line roles? Which AAA checkers find places as role players in the MLD? Which MLD backup goalies become starters now? Who backfills their roles? So exciting.

or... maybe some hardcores could take a break and skip the AAA Draft and other hardcores could take part (Hedberg for instance asked about having a AA Draft so I assume he's eager for a AAA Draft in the fall as I am; four teams would make it worthwhile.

The MLD should end by the end of July and the AAA Draft won't start until early October so that's a two month break for hardcores if skipping a draft is psychologically impossible yet a break is desired. Hell, the AAA Draft could wait until November and that would be a three-month break between drafts. But a AAA Draft there will be if there's enough intrerest!

Take it so far that Wade Belak is an actual valid draft choice?

We could also do an A draft. Maybe even a BBB draft

Sample Team:
Coach: Bill Laforge

Gary Bromley - Hardy Astrom

Darren Veitch - Ronald Elliot
Bill Houlder - Petr Buzek
Brent Sopel - James Korn
Bob Woytowich

Tom McCarthy - Alan Haworth - Valeri Bure
Lowell MacDonald - Espen Knutsen - Maxim Afinogenov
Ted Donato - Stanley Weir - Andrei Kovalenko
Ruslan Fedontenko - Steve Tambellini - Trent Klatt
Marek Svatos - Andrew McBain

(Selected by randomly going through the career scoring list (except for Svatos). I don't think I spoiled anyone's MLD choices.)

He's actually not a bad pick. After AA10, he made one of my teams of leftovers. I think he's underrated. Good offensively, and described as a "steadying influence" too. I'd like to read more about him in my scouting report books. But in a larger MLD, he's a darkhorse for a #6 D-man pick.

We've ten (10) teams with one or two more expected.

Next week past GMs with be PM'd.

Looks like we'll probably go with 12-16 teams though 20 would be fantastic.

Deadline to form a team is over two weeks away.

Jarek and I really haven't had much time to talk recently.

Also, neither of us is feeling really creative.

So we'll be the Brooklyn Americans.

At wit's end, Dutton [the owner] changed the team's name for the 194142 NHL season to the Brooklyn Americans. He had every intent on moving the team to Brooklyn, but due to a lack of a decent arena, the Brooklyn Americans continued to play their home games in Manhattan at Madison Square Garden while practicing in Brooklyn. They barely survived the season, finishing with a record of 16-29-3. After the season, the Amerks suspended operations for the war's duration. However, in 1946, the NHL reneged on promises to reinstate the Amerks and canceled the franchise. Although Dutton had every intention of returning the Amerks to the ice after World War II, NHL records list the Amerks as having "retired" from the league in 1942.

If there's any more room I'd like to take my first shot at one of the ATDs

Charlotte Clippers

edit: I've talked with Seventieslord. If we're going to be at 13 teams I'm cool with keeping it at 12. I'll help him out as a co-GM.

perfect!

post a team name and if we have an odd number of teams then you could help even it up by co-GMing

that puts us at 13... 1 more would be great, or 3 more would be ideal! (16, two divisions of 8 teams each)

Time for my Whalers to get their farm team... the Carolina Hurricanes

I could use a co-GM though, especially since it's likely I could miss a week or so due to vacation.
