How can Calgary sign him when he was drafted by Los Angeles.

NVM on Bryan Cameron's profile it says centre for Calgary. So this isn't a rumour and has happened.

Though he was drafted by the Kings, LA, for whatever, saw fit not to sign him. So he's been available for almost a year now.

Nice to hear.
Why not take a chance on a guy who can obviously put the puck in the net.
Should be a good addition to the heat next year.

Drafted in 2007, 3rd round by the Kings

Wasn't offered contract after 2 years, re-entered the 2009 draft (Kings felt he wouldn't develop into an NHLer)

Went undrafted in 2009

Was invited to traning camp by Phoenix, went unsigned

Probably a good AHLer but not much more.

Can't hurt. Surprised the Flames haven't been more active in the CHL/College UFA scene.

It's not skating. More lack of size for the type of game he plays.

Cameron is an opportunist. He's very good in the slot at getting his shot off and he loves hanging out near the crease looking for loose pucks. But is he big enough to be successful at that type of game in the NHL?

Personally, I thought LA was stupid to not sign him last year, so this is a great signing for Calgary. He can skate, is reasonably solid defensively and has a goal scoring touch. Worst case scenario, Cameron develops into a 4th line depth player/AHL player. Best case scenario is that his goal scoring ability translates to the NHL and the Flames get a quality top 6 winger.

And he is a winger by the way...not a center.

Mark Giordano worked out pretty well for the Flames too, Richie Regehr was looking very good too before his brains got scrambled... say what you want about Sutter's drafting but he has done well in fining undrafted UFA defensemen... hopefully this can translate to forwards

There is a difference between saying he turned out well for us and saying some of his offensive success could be attributed to the great defensive play provided by Bouwmeester.

Don't get me wrong, I like Gio, but I completely agree that Gio was allowed to blossom due to Bowmeester covering defensively for him. Once their pairing was split, Gio suffered a little offensively. Lunatik and I have hashed this out a few times.

Perhaps he blossomed with J-Bo covering him, but his play didn't fall off when the two were broken up; if anything, it seemed like he elevated Sarich's game. Staois/Bouwmeester as a pairing did not work for me at all though...

To be honest, I'm not even sure if he's good enough for the AHL. Whenever an NHL club passes over you it raises a huge red flag.

Gio has been awesome for a few years now. He was a great 7th defensemen, then a great 3rd pairing, then a good 2nd pairing... He's always played his role well and he keeps getting better.

Only time will tell i suppose.
The flames having nothing to lose in this deal, and the potential to gain some much needed offensive production if he pans out at an nhl level, if not more depth for the heat.
From what i have seen from him he has a nose for the net, and a keen sense for being in the right place at the right time. He is a project, but the flames are in a position to give him a roster spot in abbotsford next year.
