Why are people upset that we pulled the goalie?

There's nothing to lose -- I certainly don't think the players are going to let an empty net goal demoralize them further for next game. I think it would be a lot worse if the coach admitted defeat and didn't even acknowledge that there's a CHANCE of scoring two quick goals.

As for the game, it sucked but I'm not overly annoyed by it...I wasn't really feeling a win tonight. This team is running on fumes right now after having no break and are coming off a huge emotional high so it wasn't hard to imagine a let-down. Halak wasn't very good tonight, but he should be right back in there on Sunday.

If Markov is gone for the series though we're screwed. We really can't afford for him to miss a single game.

Anyone saying Halak had an off night... lol

Also, Subban is ridiculously good. I was waiting for a player I'd truly love that would actually be a top player, and I think Subban will be that player. He's a treat to watch every time he's on the ice.

It's sad that we lost Markov but PK can take Markov's spot, the guy played really well and whit him in I think he won't only take Markov's spot but fill it pretty well.

Let's be honest here...they didn't play that bad...they played tired

A simple tweak on the PK will do a world of good...Muller will be all over this

unfortunately, there's no 2 day gap between games, but I fully expect a much better effort on Sunday

The penalties ruined our chances to win this game.

But, overall, I'm still happy with the performance of the team.

Most players played well... except Kostitsyn (looked very lazy) and Halak (and it pains me to say it... because I like him a lot. But yeah, he didn't play well tonight. Though, I'm sure he'll be better for next game). We haven't seen much from Plekanec too and I'm expecting better results from him.

Good news:

We scored three goals; many nights that's enough to win.
PK, the player, had a great game
The effort wasn't bad considering how the Habs must be tired after a seven game series with Washington, and no break between series' at all.

Bad news:

Halak had a rough night, and might need Game 2 off.
PK, the specialty team, was horrendous. That has to improve.
Markov is injured.

Basically, we need better goaltending, everybody on D stepping up to help cover for Markov, Martin going back to the drawing board when it comes to our penalty killing, and the same offensive effort and production come Game 2. It's a bit of a tall order, but it's certainly not impossible.

Not a bad game for the Habs I think. A few adjustement and we should be able to get the next one. My two cents about the game:

- Pens were really strong on the PP and our PK suddendly didn't worked at all. We lost the game because of that I think that overall we were better 5 on 5.

- Habs were tired and it showed. However, I think that most player were really commited. Gomez was a beast and so was PK. Halak had a hard night but I can live with it. He will come back stronger on sunday.

- If Markov is injured for an extended period of time, it could hurt us a lot. However, hopefully Spacek will come back on sunday and PK will be given more responsability. MAB is not reliable at all, he should be but back as a PP specialist.

- AK too the night off. Lack of effort and commitment, bad play, no passion. I would seriously replace him with his brother to shook him.

- Benoit Pouliot is playing good right now, why not but him back with Gomer and Gio at the start of next game ? Moen, Moore and Lappy can do a good job together.

Was Cook's hit dirty? ALl we know is that he ended Savard's season, and now looks as if he may have ended Markov's. This isn't a coincidence. He's a dirty player. Get him out of the league. One way or another.

I agree with those who say that we played well 5 on 5. I also enjoyed seeing Subban controlling Crosby. This could be significant in the series. Good game for Moore and Laps, Gomez and Cammy. Nice goal by Gionta.

We need AK and Plek to come out strong in the next game. And Spacek to be all he can be... or actually, all we expected him to be during the regular season.

Considering they were tired, lost Markov and the Penalty kill was horrible we can actually take some positives from the game.

Subban is more than ready, probably should have stayed with the squad all season when he was called up in Philly.

Habs outshot the Pens and didn't look out of place against them.

Caps were far more dangerous than the Pens....Pens just capitalize on their chances so have to stay out of the penalty box.

Even without Markov I think the Habs can complete. If we can get the split and win game 2 it will be a very interesting series.

If Halak was on, Pittsburgh would be lucky to get a goal tonight.

Alot of positives here, i believe game 2 will be different, we can beat them, the guys were tired physically and emotionally, we can compete with these a**ho***. By the way the 2 ****** bags on the i Desk are complete Habs haters, loved the beatdown by Cherry.

An off night of defensive/goaltending will happen, so I'm not too concerned about the result. Didn't really expect them to do well on short rest anyway.

Besides, it's probably completely moot. Pretty sure the Habs are cooked without Markov, and leaving the igloo on crutches makes it sound like he's out for the series if not the playoffs. Season looks about to end like it started -- under the shadow of a Markov injury.

He couldn't really do much against most of the pens goals. Name me the goals he was weak on, actually don't, I know I'll disagree and I don't feel like getting into an argument over the goalies again.

Cherry was complaining about reading comments from people who were giving Hlavakov a hard time.

If you want to defend a guy, at least learn his name Don...

He wasn't as incredible as he was against Washington but that's because the D and the PK blew. That's it. Once we tighten our D Halak will be fine again.

The PK was both their strength and weakness in this game.

He wasn't weak, he was just human today. The point is that the team needs more from him as unreasonable as that may sound.

I don't think any of the goals were particularly weak. Maybe the last one, I don't know. But he wasn't good tonight -- didn't come up with any big saves and was fighting the puck the whole time. It happens.

Hopefully he's back to normal on Sunday.
