We Have Fans? MSG Ratings Increase

Devils Register Ratings Increase on MSG!

Quote:
Ratings, among this most important demographic for advertisers, jumped 78% over the 2008-09 season. Among all viewers, ratings increased by 45% over last season. This was the highest household rating for the Devils in over a decade.

I can't believe no one really has said anything about this yet... This is an absolutely amazing thing for the New Jersey Devils.

That was written by Lou in an attempt to make people believe we have fans when we don't.

Why don't they have their own channel ?!?!? I mean, doesn't MSG stand for Madison Square Garden ?!?!? They should have their own foxsportsnet channel like every other city and stop muching off the ****ing Rags.

It was discussed a little bit in TGs thread

Still greats news and deserves plenty of talk

There are millions and millions of reasons why they play on MSG

They were on FSNY a while, until it turned into MSG+

Lou also has a machine which tricks the Nielsen people into thinking we have higher ratings than we do.

The Devils get a HUGE income from MSG to use their networks. It's a 100 Million dollar deal if I remember correctly.

And technically MSG is a FSN channel. They show some FSN shows.

Moving the Devils off of MSG would be ideal, but I don't think it's really possible.

I dont really understand how they could jump 78% in 25-54 (which covers a high percentage of fans) in just one year.

The only logical explanation I have is that a lot of people tune in for Brodeur since he was injured most of last year, but again....

Why pay for a channel when you can get paid yourself.

Not only get paid, but get paid by the owner of Our Hated Rivals.

I feel like chanting "We're taking your money, and having a laugh" at Rangers fans in 10-11. But I think I'd be the only one doing that.

It's possible the method for measuring viewership has been changed or adjusted.

I don't understand the whole business part, so why do we get paid to be on MSG+?

So you would just piss out millions to be on a TV network with a different name?

If memory serves me (and if I'm wrong, someone correct me), earlier this decade, the Devils and Islanders were almost done with their TV deals and both YES and SNY were looking for additional programming. Cablevision/Dolan did not want to have his competitors have either team leave his family of networks and take eyeballs (and so advertisers) away to either network.

So to make sure YES and SNY couldn't get either team, Cablevision/Dolan offered very lucrative deals to both the Devils and Islanders to stay with the MSG group of networks. Not only are the Devils getting paid, but quite well.

I had no idea we were getting paid to be on MSG... that changes everything. That's why I asked if someone could fill me in cause I had no clue.

Correct.

The regular MSG network that airs the Rangers and Knicks is property of Cablevision, however, MSG Plus is a joint venture of Cablevision and Fox Sports Net, and I believe the naming rights belong to Cablevision and MSG Entertainment as they have the majority stake.

FSN New York, "former" home of the Devils and Islanders was rebranded as MSG Plus in March of 2008, so the old network really didn't go anywhere... Only difference is Devils and Islanders fans have to look at that hideous "MSG" eyesore in the top corner of the screen when trying to enjoy a game.

Yeah, I believe the original plan was to have the Devils on YES and the Islanders on SNY, but Dolan, afraid of competition per usual (Cough. FiOS. Cough.), backed the money truck up in front of the owners of the resident NHL Clubs in New Jersey and on Long Island and they went insane.

The Devils now rank seventh in the NHL for average number of American households.
We have no fans.

This team is gonna fold because there's no one in the seats, the atmosphere is dead at the Prudential Center, no one cares for them [because there isn't a massive bandwagon following for a team ten miles away from the New York Mother****ing Rangers].

I don't get MSG+ 2 down here at Rutgers. That's the only thing that sucks.
