This is wishfull thinking but Chris Pronger. The only way I see him staying in St. Louis is if he takes a pay cut. I also can't see them letting him walk for nothing on the same token. We will have to wait and see what happens, it should be interesting to see what happens. Do you think St. Louis would take Kaberle, Pilar and Antropov for Pronger.

The question becomes, if the Blues feel they can't afford Pronger and they put him on the open market could they get a better offer than Kaberle, Pilar and Antropov for him?

I think the answer is yes. The former MVP and still top 5 at worst d-man (I say only Lidstrom and Niedermayer are better) could fetch alot more than a good 2nd pair d-man, a talented but raw 3rd line center and a filler d-man.

One of the best defenceman in the game is not gonna be traded for the Leafs spare parts. Philly apparently had an offer on the table at the trade deadline and included from what I remember a package involving Gagne and one of Johnsson or Pitkanen plus more.

St Louis press and some of their fans are saying Pronger and the Blues are discussing an extension,at a lower salary then the $9m he made last yr.

Either Pronger or his wife's from St. Louis and they don't want to leave.I'd expect Demetra to be dealt before Pronger.

I would love for the Leafs to pursue Isbister. I think he could possibly emerge to be a Tod Bertuzzi caliber player. Todd was a late bloomer as well. I have always been big on Isbister. He is a very fast skater for someone of his size. His shot is a cannon and he loves the physical play. I have seen him at times use his size and speed to mussle his way right through people. He has the ability to take over and dominate a game.

i agree with your point, but this rumour was never backed up and sounded by all accounts ludicrous - but i spose anything was possible with clarke this year.

TORONTO STAR/WAYMORESPORTS.COM: reported yesterday the Panthers could end up cutting several restricted free agents, including Matt Cullen, Eric Messier, Denis Shvidki, Mikael Samuelsson, Christian Berglund, Andreas Lilja and Pavel Trnka.

http://spectorshockey.tripod.com/default.html

other rumored cuts: arnott, v. bure, b. devereaux, deadmarsh & allison (due to injuries), v. kozlov, c. pronger (longshot)...

That's the negative to getting rumors from spectors.

They'll take a wishful article from homers in the media-Pronger's not gonna be qualified,Leafs getting him cheaply or Foote wants to be a Leaf.

Next thing you know writers in other cities are reporting it, as if it came from a credible source.

The same thing happened with Eric Brewer earlier this season. Some writer in Florida thought Brewer might look good on another team. The writer didn't claim that Brewer was on the block but a blurb still showed up the next day on Spector's claiming that Lowe was listening to offers for Brewer.

His wife is from STL - she has *very* deep roots there. Put it this way....when they got married there was a pre-nup....and it wasn't to protect him.

The Blues may well not qualify Demitra unless they decide to do it in the hope that they can trade him after a new CBA is negotiated. That, or if what he gets in arbitration is more than the Blues are willing to pay, they'd walk away and not lose anything. (Think: Bryan Berard vs. Boston Bruins, 2003 offseason) I also figure that Jamal Mayers won't get qualified after his pathetic play this season.
