It would have been nice to see Quick; I think this would have been a good event for him, but it's understandable that he didn't want to go.
Quick is actually hurt. After the Kings lost game 6, it came out that he was playing with a shoulder injury, so he couldn't have gone even if he had wanted to. Even if he was healthy, with a new baby, I'm not sure he would have, as you mention. It would have been nice to see him play for the US after warming the stands/bench in the Olympics.
Yeah, he's competent. Given the Americans options (since Miller, Thomas, Quick, and DiPietro (LOL)) - I'm assuming Esche and Grahame were the others I'm happier with Clemmer. Still don't trust him
Given all the guys that either declined (Miller, Anderson, Quick, Esche, Conklin), injured (DiPietro) or guys that aren't available (Thomas, Howard), Clemmensen is actually a pretty good coup for this team. I'm not saying I'd bet good money on him putting together a great tournament but he's surely capable of it. The last time we won a medal in this tournament was on a team where Ty Conklin was our goaltender and he played extremely well. USA goaltending has made good progress though. It wouldn't have been too long ago where Clemmensen would have been in our Top 3-5 options.
