Why doesn't IIHF give the TV rights to ESPN or ESPN2?

why not send the TSN feed down south and broadcast it on ESPN 2 or something. that way no cost to ESPN, and free broadcast deal from the IIHF.

and its not third string, its top class. last year here were some of the players:

*Alexander Ovechkin, Ilya kovalchuk, Maxim Afinogenov, Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Fedorov, Alexander Semin, Pavel Datsyuk, Corey Perry, Steven Stamkos, Ryan Smyth, Mikhail Grabovski, Ruslan Salei, Tomas Vokoun, Jaromir Jagr, Pekka Rinne, Christian Ehrhoff...etc.

to call that "third string" means you really aren't a hockey fan.

Thats true, Canada had an elite team full of NHL stars (thats been the case the last 4-5 years), and Russia pretty much had their olympic team. And european teams had a bunch of NHL players, and the best players in Europe. I think its pretty insulting that some people call these "3rd string games with 3rd string players" when in fact there are a big bunch of NHL stars and the best hockey players in Europe

yeah, good point.

im not sure what's the deal between the two, but its pretty obvious their part of the same company. i'd rather watch the WHC than some Alabama spring practice or division 2 football semifinal.

ESPN owns a 20% stake in TSN.
