Flames/ Flyers round 2

Is it just me or are the Flyers and Flames due for another series. Seems to me when I was a kid the Flames mopped the ice with the Flyers in game 7 at the Spectrum. I see a cup final in our future that makes the TV Gods drool. Canada's team vs. one of the greatest TV markets in the league. Game on!

Bad memories from that game 7. Everyone thought for sure that game being at The Spectrum was a lock....man, were they wrong!

I believe that series was the biggest reason the Flyers went out and acquired Brad Marsh from the Flames.

A Flyers-Flames final would also be one of the most physical finals in a long time. Both teams are fast and furious.....but the Flyers still have a long way to go with the Bolts.

It would actually be our 3rd go-round with the Flames, the first was when they were in Atlanta, in 1974

My first Flyers game ever was at the Spectrum versus Calgary in 1980. I don't even remember if they won or lost. I was only 8 at the time (go ahead and do the math if you want) but had a blast with the whole experience. I have been watching hockey ever since.

What I remember most about the 1981 series was the Flyers down 3-1, won Game 5 then had to win in one of the toughest buildings in the League in Calgary and did. Then Game 7 happened and in my youth remember cursing Bruce Hood to no end . If I remember "Full Spectrum" correctly, there were four penalties called on the Flyers in the first 7 or 8 minutes.

No, I think GKJ was saying if the Flyers-Flames hooked up in the finals, that would make it a 3rd time.

The years they played each other (before the playoff seeding changed and you would be ranked #1-16 in the NHL instead of 1-8 in each conference):

1974 (Atlanta Flames)
1981 (of course, Calgary)

POST IN THIS THREAD AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Don't look ahead, it's bad luck, but I guess others here know better about karma than I.

Post away...

I have the same feelings....note in my reply at the beginning of the thread that "the Flyers still have a long way to go with the Bolts."

I had already decided any other response from me in this thread would only be to talk about the previous Flyer-Flame playoff encounters.....

Too many "Neil" and "Oracle" fans out there. Regardless of what is said or done here the outcome of the game will be the same.

Let's look at the similarities from the Devils last year and us this year.

Devils -- last year's Atl. Division Champ
Flyers -- this year's Atl. Division Champ

Devils -- beat Boston in 5, then you in 6
Flyers -- beat NJD in, then the Leafs 6
Both a step up in competition in each round, you agree?

Devils -- played the trap
Flyers -- play the trap

Devils -- #3 seed in last year's playoffs
Flyers -- #3 seed in this year's playoffs

Devils -- beat the #1 seed Ottawa
Flyers -- will beat the #1 seed Bolts

Devils -- played Anaheim
Flyers -- may play a similar team in Calgary

I'm liking all the similarities that we have to NJD, considering what the end result was for them last year.

Yeah, superstitions are stupid any way. Nothing anyone says or does will affect the outcome of a game/series. I honestly believe the Flyers will win the series, simply based on the facts that, Tampa played two inferior, on the bubble, hockey teams in round 1 and 2 in the Isles and Habs... Now they're playing with fire and have not looked impressive in two HOME games. Flyers could easily be up 2-0 in the series if they would have capitalized in game 1. But that's over, they dominated game 2 and are tied 1-1 going home, where they have not lost a game all playoffs. I like their chances.

Honestly - I think the Flyers are a far better team than the Flames. Granted - I haven't seen them that much. The Flyers can roll 4 good lines on them unlike any team they've faced thus far. Of the games I've seen Calgary play - they are reasonably tough, fast, and young. However their D is smallish, inexperienced, thin (3 quality D at best) and their forwards lines are thin as well. Chris Simon??? give me a break.

We would crush the Flames... IMO

Sounds like what Vancouver, Detroit, and San Jose were saying. Never underestimate the power of team.

I have Calgary in my pool at work so I'v watched all of their games, they are playing exceptionally right now, do not take them lightly, they have the hottest goalie in the league right now, and their D is not undersized by any stretch of the immagination

Same thing with me and its subconscience, if they win I watch the same TV and sit in the same seat. If they lose or are playing badly I switch.

Bad news for me was I was sitting on a bed of nails for last game, talk about a pain in the ass.
