Marleau feature

(Reminders: Setoguchi on NHL Live in the next few hours; my guess ~10am. Heatley & Clowe on Chronicle Live CSN 5pm)

Maybe I should put this on the Christmas wish list. (It's not available until 4th quarter of this year.)

Maybe the Sharks Store will carry it?

Seto comments:

Prefers the extra rest, not worried about the rust. Uses the break between Colorado-Detroit as an example.

"Our job's not done. Our goal isn't achieved yet... We've done well proving a lot of critics wrong thinking we couldn't get past Detroit." Also implies that there is nobody questioning themselves.

On the 6 game losing streak near the end of the regular season, Seto spoke to keeping a positive attitude and believing that things will turn around.

On Joe Thornton: "There's so much pressure built around Joe, Patty and Nabby, that they've done a good job silenicng everyone and forgetting about it, just going out there and playing. Jumbo has put a lot of emotion into the games, and he's a great guy in the lockerroom, pushing our team to that next level in the playoffs. He's been one of our leaders so far."

Says during downtime, he's following a little golf. Knows that many players are watching the Chicago/Vancouver series to get a personal assessment of the teams.

Gotta go to schol now, someone else can fill in the rest.

Agreed that the team passed a psychological hurdle in reaching the conference finals.

He compared his playoff performance with last year and spoke of stepping up and providing the secondary scoring and taking the heat off the "big line" and said it feels good to collectively pitch in.

Asked it he could relate to Dallas Braden of the A's pitching the perfect game. Seto pointed out that even though the pitcher gets it, it's really a team effort.

Talked about the fans and how everyone thinks Californians can't be "big" hockey fans. Said the buzz out here is good and "we have the loudest building in the playoffs". The fans have done a good job of making it a good atmosphere for the team to come in and play and it feels good to have the excitement and support in the Bay Area.

Regarding next series, says it's (obviously) going to be a tough hill to get over. Van and Chicago are both great hockey clubs and they were 1,2, and 3 in the Western Conference and the numbers really could have been interchangeable. They have to make sure they are prepared and ready to go to work and do the things that have made them successful up to this point.

They asked about Scotty and Manny and how watching them work helps the younger guys. "We brought in about 7-8 new guys this season that have all, collectively, pitched in in the ways that Dougie wanted them to. Scotty and Manny are the top two face-off guys and you know what you're going to get from them every night. You got Logan Couture, Jamie McGuinn, Jason Demers. They've come in as young guys to provide that energy and also put points up. You got Heater who does what he does - he scores goals, he gets points. It's been a good year so far, there's a good team chemistry going on and the buzz in the room is a good feeling right now. We just gotta make sure that we keep going."

He said he would have his Grandma send them a bobblehead if she has an extra one.

it is funny how every one always says how nichol is this god in the face off circle. he has actually been horrible on face offs in the playoffs.

out of the 11 players who have taken atleast 1 face off in the playoffs he is 8th, with a 49.5 win %.

and if you take out heatley, helemienen, mcginn who have combined for 11 face offs. and he is 6th of 8 on the team.

couture is the only center on the team who is worse on face offs right now.

I would take the larger set of data over the smaller one any day. It's been 11 games vs the 82 during the regular season.

Yeah, if I remember correct, the Sharks didn't do so great in the faceoff circle vs. the Avs. Then came Detroit, where they were only good at home.

Maybe they need to practice taking draws as the visiting team more often? i dunno... the difference was apparent to me without any numbers.

Not to nitpick, but 49.5% is not "horrible," it's a coin flip.

Sharks were the best in the league at 55% - gives you an indication of how chancey these things are. The fact that he's 8th with 49.5% means I'm glad there are 7 guys above him. He's still a great faceoff guy and he'll continue to get sent out there for d-zone faceoffs.
