I don't understand why some people would want to break up a line that's averaging almost 1.5 gpg in the POs. Over a full season that's an average of 120+ goals between 3 players.
People like to ***** and complain all the time but never have an actual solution. There's no good FAs that we can get for the same price as we're paying AK now. His value is at an all-time low and people are just willing to give him away and waste valuable assets to replace him? That's awful asset management, but it's to be expected with the patience level of some people around here.
Right now we have only ONE line that's scoring goals. Why is it that people neglect the actual problems this team has and then ***** about things that are actually stable? From Price/Halak to the obsession of finding a big centre when our centres are actually our biggest strength right now outside of goaltending, I'll just never understand the mindset of some of the people around here.
Here are our ACTUAL problems followed by possible solutions:
1) salary cap
2) slow, old defense
3) lack of a big top 6 LW
Cap problem can be solved by trading Hamrlik for picks, buying him out or burying him in the minors.
Defense should be addressed through the draft, hopefully we can package our pick + a good prospect or two (Patches/Kristo/Weber/2nd round pick), depending on if we beat Pittsburgh or not, and acquire a top 10 pick. Derek Forbort, a big, fast, shutdown D should be available.
The top 6 LW can be had by moving Price+ either for another top 10 pick (Connolly/Niederreiter) or a cheap, young player.
Now I realize most of these moves will not help our team as soon as next year, but you won't be finding cheap, quality players without drastically overpaying.
