Don't know why, but Bykov will be putting Eremenko in goal.

Frolov doesn't seem to be on the lineup. What's with him?

Sure Varlamov plays in the NHL but Eremenko has played well in prior WC-tournaments with only 12 goals against in 11 games. Perhaps he is better...

Semin trying to juggle the puck on his stick through the crease, during the Russian PP. Seriously?

Kovalchuk bumbles a breakaway (dekes and it gets away from him).

After 2 periods, Russia is up 3-0.

1st, 10:20 - Ovechkin (Semin, Fedorov) PP
2nd, 0:42 - Kovalchuk (Semin)
2nd, 17:55 - Semin

Shots are 16-14, Russia.

Kazakhstan has 29 seconds left on the PP to start the 3rd, with Ovechkin in the box for tripping.

4-1, Kazakhstan breaks the shutout.

Looks like that will be the final.

Overall the Russians looked surprisingly poor. I was expecting a little more from this team against one of the worst teams in the tournament.

Belarus had a better game against Kazakhstan, IMO.

I'm a bit surprised Russia isn't scoring more.

They have by far the best group of forwards at this tournament.

I was expecting them to score 5-10 goals against Kazahkstan.

Sure.

Ovechkin - Korneev, Kozlov - Fedorov - Semin (might have been Frolov in Kozlov's spot for the first game)
Kovalchuk - Atyushov, Mozyakin - Anisimov - Sushinsky

I was at the game, got some free tickets in perfect spots. It was nice to see Ovie, Kovalchuk and Semin, even though they all just showed sparkles of their abilities. Eremenko seemed very nervous and had to battle a couple of rather easy shots. Atmosphere wasn't too bad due to the many Russian fans and a fun group of fans from Kazachstan...

Now I'm looking forward to seeing both of these teams again on Thursday - for free again, obviously.

gotta say thanks as well. had a slow day today at work, but the internet is frowned upon, so the phone came in handy.
