Kovy did wonders for centers like Little and Peverly, ya they are good players but there stats with Kovy made them appear like Derek Roy pretty much a point per game player, with Kopi and Kovy together Kopi should be getting 90+ points for sure and maybe over a 100 if the chemistry between the two meshes and no major injuries to the top line as well.

Versteeg had a nice goal and a good game last night, would look good in a Kings uni.

Versteeg would be nice, but he aint about to solve our scoring woes. He would be a great replacement for Fro, but even with that, we still need a dynamite goal scorer.

I talked to a few people on the Wings board, and they seem to think their isn't a chance in hell they can afford Kovalchuk.

There probably isn't, but Chicago fans probably also said the same thing about Hossa last year. Certainly the rest of us said "how the hell can they afford Hossa??"

I do doubt the Wings go after Kovy however.

Kovy wants to be a King. He wants Kopi fedding him pucks. He yearns to play with the big bodied center, an ambassador for an entire country. He dreams of the 2-on-1 rushes they will share and the bombs they will launch on the PP.

He has what is slowly infecting the rest of the league.

Its called Anze Envy.

I worker out another Lineup, not too many surprises.

Kovalchuk($8M)-Kopitar-Williams
Smyth-Stoll-Brown
Richardson($1.3M)-Handzus-Simmonds
Parse-Lewis-Clune/Westgarth

Doughty-Scuderi
Greene-JJ
Voynov-Drewiske
Harrold

Quick
Bernier

Total: $56,957,498
If the cap goes up even a fraction of what it should, this would work.

I want Kovy bad, but that D doesn't look great. I guess there's no way to have both.

I figure Doughty is only gonna get better, as well as JJ, Voynov is already leaps and bounds better than Jones and we all saw how solid Wiske was before he got hurt.

Don't forget that Bernier and a rested Quick will make the defense seem better too. Quick gave up a lot of weak goals, plays that were defended correctly yet still ended up behind Quick.

I suppose the subtraction of Randy Jones will also help the D quite a bit.

It will also help ease our heart rate and blood pressure.

Meh, I laugh at you guys' heart rate and blood pressure. Mine was pretty steady with or without Jones.

with Kovy, JW is ideal to ship out with our depth at wing.....yet we would be selling at an extreme low....but i'm led to believe that sometimes DL cares more about his boxes being rightly filled than about value in trades

I like Sharp and Stteeg and would take a hard look at getting one or both of em.
You are talking about Martin St.Louis right? He has never been a Duck. Check your facts...

I've said it once, I'll say it again, no way Kings let Jones and OD walk and replace them with just Voynov and Drewiske.

They could replace him with one of us, and it would be an upgrade.

Anyway, ok so either bring back OD or a $1M-$2M Veteran D-Man.

Well flat line works for some, but others of us have a pulse.
Jones showed times when he was good and times when he has scary. I am not saying that other people didn't turn the puck over (maybe even more) but we all seemed to notice it with Jones.
As far as these roster with Kovy are looking it scares me. I think many of you are making a case as to why we can't afford him. Maybe a mid level winger and a low to mid level Dman would be a better deal.

Exactly...it will be either Voynov/Hickey/Martinez in Jones' spot and either O'Donnell back or another low priced UFA who plays a similar style game, ie gritty.

Unless it's Sharp/Versteeg & a top 5 D-Man, it no way improves the team. If Dean is gonna spend, it will be on pieces that improve the team. Not ones that keep it at the same slightly above average level.

It's not great. It looks pretty bad to me. As much as people talk about the 5on5 offense against the Canucks, the 5on5 defense was just as atrocious. The Kings D isn't nearly as strong as some are making it out to be. It is still mind boggling to me that people are happy with Scuds as a top pairing dman.

Are you talking about the playoff series only? The one where Qucik had an 0.884 SA% (worst in the playoffs)? That will destroy any defensive stats of the team.

Regular season:

Kings 9th in offense, 19th 5-on-5
Kings 9th on defense, 4th 5-on-5

The Kings needs to improve their 5-on-5 offense, hence Kovalchuk.

It's not so much that he is a top pairing guy, as is it that he and Drew play well together.

And they only play together 5-on-5. Drew gets his extra ice time on the PP. He was playing almost the full 2 minutes of the PP in the playoffs. Of course, the Kings didn't use the full 2 minutes in the playoffs very much.
